Editorial Review for Avenue 5 Restaurant – by Erin Chambers
In Short
The Maclaggan's came together on this one. Mom Patricia designed the sleek space, pitting exposed brick walls against a chic palate of dark espresso wood floors and pops of moss green in the chairs. A sleek bar up front beckons the well-dressed after-work or pre-theater sets, while son Colin's full menu of seasonal French/American food is served up in the main dining room farther back. Brother Brian's the proprieter, maintaining the decidedly uptown, upscale vibe of the Hill's new hot spot.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe menu is a la carte--not tapas. It's more upscale than tapas. There are traditional entrees, appetizers and desserts. You just order the sides separately.
The ExtrasThere is a "back room" perfect for small parties and private dinners, but be sure to reserve in advance.
Fun FactGeneral Manager Nicolas Carbonne isn't part of the Maclaggan family technically, but he has an impressive pedigree, including stints at Dakota's and Tapenade.

This is a wonderful new restaurant that just opened in Bankers Hill. It has such a nice cozy feel and is in a beautiful neighborhood that's very central and accessible - a welcome change from downtown. Plenty of parking on the street and in the lot on the south side of the building. The food is excellent and the service is just as good. Prices are very reasonable especially for the quality of food you get and the extremely attentive and professional service staff. Menu items, which change seasonally, include foie gras, escargot, duck confit, a delicious and not to miss mushroom tortellini, fish and meat entrees such as NY steak and sea bass, and a dessert and cheese selection that you must leave room for. They also have a great bar menu and happy hour which includes a $6 burger and fries! Wine list is extensive and an interesting combination from around the world. They also offer a full bar that can get pretty busy during happy hour so be sure to stop in early to secure a seat.
Pros: Excellent food, loads of parking and top notch service
Cons: None
