Experience Casually Elegant Dining In A Pacific Beach Bungalow

  • A Local favorite since 1985
  • Creative Chicken Dishes
  • Fresh Seafood & Prime Beef

PB's most Romantic Restaurant serves California comfort food, punctuated by bold and sometimes strange Mexi/Asian/Cajun flavors, in a rambling converted residence with several rooms and levels. Dinners come with soup or salad and many entrée's are served over marvelous house-made fresh pasta. Salmon over fetteccini in a delicate dill sauce is especially fine. The huge array of desserts is house made too, with something for every palate. The most desirable tables (available first come first served) are on a lovely fireplace-heated patio. Wheel chair ramp and parking available in small lot behind restaurant, call ahead to request. Homey atmosphere. Extensive wine list, full bar. open daily, dinner only. Reservations recommended

Editorial Review for Lamont Street Grill – by Michael Alarcon

The Scene
It's fitting that this tiny bistro is tucked away in the residential area of Pacific Beach because its decor blends in so seamlessly with the neighborhood that it's easy to imagine yourself eating in someone's dining room (or backyard patio if you're lucky enough to reserve an outdoor table).

The Food
Head chef Robert Marnul works with seasonal menus so it's not uncommon to see one of your favorite dishes exit for a while. He does have a few staples that the locals seem to love such as the almond crusted halibut and the baked chicken breast with garlic buttered bread crumbs and white wine over pasta. The grilled filet mignon with mustard butter is also a house choice. For something lighter, the grilled steak salad or the chicken fritters with spicy peanut sauce with one of the cellar's white wines are great on the patio during hot summer afternoons.

What to Drink

This restaurant has one of the better (if not best) wine selections in Pacific Beach with a monthly rotating menu with over 50 labels.

Where to Sit

You'll want to make reservations way in advance for a patio table. These scarce tables are the best in the house.

I've been going to this venue off and on since the '80's when it was Casino Valadier. The restaurant itself hasn't changed much since then and it offers a very warm intimate ambiance. I have so many great memories of going there with my then- (boy)friend (now husband). We moved away from San Diego for a few years, but when we returned to San Diego we headed here and were not disappointed. The food is always good and the service is very attentive.

Cons: Parking is usually difficult.

Believe it or not there is very good food in Pacific Beach! This place is great I was referred by a friend and had no idea how excellent this place was. I have driven past this restaurant a hundred times like anybody and not even noticed it. Once I made an effort to dine here though I was so delighted at what I found. Our waiter was excellent and gave us a very good recommendation on wine, as well as my girfriend is not much of a seafood fan but got talked into the Halibut and absolutely loved it! I had the filet which was also wonderful. I would highly recommend this place for anybody that is looking to stay at the beach for a fine meal in a very unique and quaint atmosphere.

It's easy to pass by on the street, but this hidden gem is truly one of Pacific Beach's best finds.  See the full editorial review.
