Terrible Food, extremely disappointed!. NOT GOOD! Our salads were warm, but the dinners were cold. When we sent them back the manager came back less than 5 minutes later with reheated food. It was terrible! Steak and fish were cold, shrimp was rubbery and rice was mushy. For a restaurant like this we should have been served new plates. The only thing that was served warm were our wilted salads, which should have been cold! We had heard good things about this place and were extremely disappointed! I will note that the waitress was good and so was the wine, but those were the only redeeming qualities about this place. Will NOT recommend or return, so disappointed!

AWFUL experience!!! :(. I really don't want to relive my evening at World Famous, but I'll do it so you can be spared & informed.

First Impression: We walked in & came face to face with two young hostesses who should never ever have a job in customer service. They both stared at us for a second, we said hello, they said nothing. Wow. Okay.

We got in line to wait for a table. The place was hoppin' for sure. Lot's of young college-age kids eating tacos and drinking, over-looking the ocean. The atmosphere had a fun beachy vibe.

Service: Our waitress, who needed someone to give her back the rest of her skirt, was absolutely miserable. No idea what her name was. She was blond, ponytail, looked like someone just killed her puppy. Oh wait, that was pretty much every waitress in there. Anyhow, no smiles, no greetings, NOTHING.

Food: We placed our order. Lot's of shrimp tacos, a couple drinks, etc... (They have $1.25 shrimp tacos on Tuesday nights.) The food came out quickly. I ordered the chicken tacos. Gross. The tortillas tasted like thick raw dough and well, just wasn't tasty at all. The shrimp tacos were very tasty though.

When the food came out, I noticed they gave my husband an extra shrimp taco, so wanting to be honest, I told the waitress. She said, "Oh. Well I'll take it back." And then she walks off. Hmmm.... You'll "take it back?" Okay, whatever. My husband goes for his first bite and before he makes contact with the taco, she immediately comes over and holds a small plate in front of him to put one of the shrimp tacos on her plate. (Are you serious???) I go, "Um, can he just leave the one taco on the plate and give it to you after he's done? We promise, he won't eat it." She smirked and said with more attitude than ever, "Uh, no." Wow. Whatever happened to, "Oh, gosh, no problem, keep the extra taco on us. It was our fault! Enjoy it!!" Yeah, not here.

Okay, we're getting ready to wrap it up, take our last bites, etc... One of our friends asks if he can order 3 shrimp tacos to bring home to his wife (she was sick and couldn't join us). The waitress said with a snarl, "No, they're for dine in only." She didn't apologize or budge. He asked if he could order them, then just get a 'to-go' box. Nope. Just a flat out 'no' in the most rude way I've even seen. We asked for the manager.

So, the manager comes over and says, "Okay. A couple things..." (Really? That's how you address us?)

She continues: "The shrimp taco special is for dine-in only, so you can't take any to go." Alright, fine... Rules are rules.

She continues: "And in order to get the $1.25 shrimp taco special, everyone needs to order, like, at least one drink."

(Please note that our plates are GONE at this point. We are DONE eating. We're reaching for our wallets & we're ready to GO HOME. And she tells us NOW that we all need to start drinking? HUH?)

I spoke up and said, 'Well, our waitress never told us that."

Manager: "I know, so maybe if just, like, a couple of you guys can order a drink..."

Me: "Um, we're DONE eating. We're getting ready to pay our bill. We're not gonna order drinks."

She fumbled a bit and I spoke up again and just said, 'Well, at least we know for next time." (Yeah right.)

I was done w/ this discussion. And I swear if anyone at my table gave in and ordered a drink, I woulda killed them on the spot.

As we walk out, the "manager" is partying at a table (eating and drinking) with her girlfriends. Really? Wow.

This place is an absolute joke. They can take their shrimp tacos and stuff it.

Sunset on the Beach!. They have great happy hour specials, but if you are in the mood to spend just a little more, I would try to get a seat by the patio area, overlooking the ocean. Get some of the appetizers, my favorites are the lobster bisque and the crusted brie. A couple of cocktails to relax by the beach front scenery. Sometimes the service is not the greatest, but I try not to let that bother me, after all I am having a drink by the beach. Kinda of thing that some of us are eager to! Then after the lovely sunset, you can enjoy a walk along the boardwalk all the way to the pier! We all need to enjoy life a little more...

Disappointing. This resturant has become such a disappointment. On our last and final visit to this resturant - on a very nonbusy afternoon - we were made to feel as though we were imposing. Both of the girls "hostessing" were rude and have no idea how to greet a customer properly. I was worried that one of them was going to loose her shirt and expose herself - it's ridiculous that her manager let her greet customers the way she looked. In fact, is anyone managing this place at all? When we finally got to a table at least 3 waitresses went by over 15 minutes and found a way to avoid eye contact with us. Finally, a waitress found a way to take our order after making sure we knew she wasn't "really" our waitress. The food was just okay. Thank goodness for the view because that is the only thing that saves this place. Why don't you people clean up this place? It's dirty, dingy and old. Sad.

The White Linen has turned gray. I made reservations well in advance for the 4th of July when I arrived with my party there wasn't a reservation on file. Thankfully (I thought) we were able to be seated in the dining room rather than the patio as requested.

The wait staff was unprofessional, spending the majority of their time with their buddies at the bar. It took 1 1/2 hours just to get the entree(s), only to return half of it because it was either cold or wasn't prepared as directed. However I didn't see one glass go empty if the patron was around the age of 21 and half looped.

The food was ok when we finally did get it however it wasn't ok enough to spend so much time waiting for it.

The was entertainment though. Three of the waitresses had a loud verbal argument as to whose drinks were up next at the bar. Entertaining but digustingly innapropriate for a white linen restaurant.

I have been a patron of World Famous for over 15 years and previously would recommend it to my friends and family from out of town/state. I don't know what happened to the way this place is managed but this was horrible. The bar patrons spilled over into the dining area and were loud and obnoxious and the restaraunt staff was oblivious as to what was transpiring in their own workplace.

I will never recommend World Famous again as a place to go while in San Diego. It now ranks right up their with the other hole-in-the-wall beach bars along Pacific Beach. The white linen needs to be replaced with brown paper so that the drunks can scribble their names on it.

Great food and great atmosphere. I've been dining at World's Famous for years. Every vacation in San Diego ends with dinner there. Try the lobster bisque and the fish taco's. They have a great happy hour as well. Don't forget to go for the sunset!

Amazing Breakfast!. This place is great, a San Diego beachfront original with great food. I hadn't been here in years and was meeting a friend at the beach for breakfast so I suggested World Famous as it is easy for everyone to find and a fun spot. So we meet up and all had great meals, service was great and the view and ambience speaks for itself. I had the french toast which is arguably the best I have ever had, I also tried my friends eggs bennedict which was super good. Good to know that World Famous is still doing it right and will of course be back again soon.

A happening place with wonderful menu choices. This is a happening place, so you will want to make a reservation for any weekend dining. Since we didn't, we eat in the bar which turned out to be a lot of fun. Even the service was attentive. The menu choices are wonderful and everything we ate was delicious.

Editorial Review. The lines are long at this local, beachfront favorite, but boardwalk people-watching makes waiting for a table very entertaining.

Great!. Happy hour M-F 4:30pm until closing is a seafood treat. Each evening different special ranging from any item on the bar menu for half price to lobster tacos for $1 each. Fabulous! Full bar and knowledgable wine list. Ocean front.
