What People Are Saying About Kono's Surf Club

In Short – Located just steps from Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach, this popular breakfast and lunch spot frequently has a line of hungry locals and tourists snaking out the door. The no-frills service includes an order counter, paper plates and plastic utensils, but the friendly staff, affordable prices, and beach ambience more than make up for it. A cozy indoor dining area offers a TV with endless surfing videos, but most patrons opt for the umbrella tables on the deck where they can watch real life surfers on the waves below. Breakfast specialties are super-sized egg and pancake…
Editor's Tips
- Save Money:
- Portions are huge so feel free to share a giant burrito or order pancakes with a side of party potatoes.
- When To Go:
- Arrive before 9am on weekends for a shorter wait.
- Know Before You Go:
- To avoid holding up the line, grab a paper menu and decide what you want before you reach the order window.

Im not really sure what all the hype is about this place. I'm a tourist from Colorado and I eat breakfast burritos all the time and I am yet to try a really good one at Pacific beach. After literally 30 minutes of standing in line in the sun we finally order... drink our flat soda, finally get our burritos and literally the entire burrito was basically egg. There was very little bacon, very little potato, very little green chili.
Going back a little bit, after waiting in line we finally get to order and they dont accept credit/debit, so we have to go around the corner to the atm which charges a $3 fee... unreal...
I specifically made an account on this citysearch so that i could write a review about this place... I was highly disappointed. You want a good breakfast burrito, come to colorado, I'll show you whats up haha
- Pros: none
- Cons: don't accept credit/debit, long lines, poor food.. etc
10.0 Best breakfast in town
by bessfish at Citysearch
The ultimate in San Diego breakfast dining experiences. The great food, the salty ocean air. The line moves fast when its locals. When its tourists, just kick back and enjoy that you are living where others come to visit.
- Pros: Cheap. Delicious
- Cons: The line can really be brutal sometimes.
get the party potatoes!

don't be scared byt he line here. it goes fast and it's there for a reason -- this is the best breakfast at the beach (world famous would be a close second). get the party potatoes, and have a friend watch for a seat ont he pier while you wait in line.
Cheap eats on the beach

Once you get pas the line to order, Kono's is the best beach location for breakfast (served all day). It's cheap, it's a lot of food and it's right on the beach - it doesn't get more San Diego than this. Of the times I've been here, I've never gotten anything other than breakfast, but they serve lunch too.
- Pros: Cheap food, great views
- Cons: Lengthy wait to order, parking is a pain
