“Good food and reasonable prices.”
Strange Place.
I used to stop here after surfing or swimming at the beach because of the location and I was staying just down the street. The bar is real nice, traditional old fashioned wood bar and is the center piece of attraction. My first visit there I met the bartender, “Vic” and he was real nice and went out of his way to serve. I can’t say that about some of the other wait staff. A real strange clique works at the Pacific Beach location. One night I was at the bar and I had one or two beers and I left a poem (nothing crude or sexual) for a cute waitress that worked there but she wasn’t working that evening. This female bartender with a big ego gave it to her the next day and when I stopped by a few weeks later this same female bartender (who claims she was from Chicago) copped a big negative attitude toward me over this poem I wrote claiming it “freaked out” her little worker. A month later I stopped by late one evening and one of the other bartenders (claims to be one of the many managers there) said, “he couldn’t serve me because of a note I left.” I just walked out shaking my head. I can’t believe the owner, (Mr. Hennessey-who I’ve met) has these candy-a$$ people working for him. I just said, fine I’ll take my money else where as there are many other places in P.B.
The food is not that great other than the fish and chips. The drinks are over priced and the times I watched the football games there the female wait staff and their little female boss bartender drank and ate at the bar the whole time watching the games in front of the customers. Very unprofessional. My family has owned restaurants in the past and I’ve helped managed them so I have some idea on good customer service. This female bartender was very rude, (even before leaving this nice poem) and I had to flag her down to even get a drink. This other bartender named, “froggy” was another strange one. I asked him one day if he watched the world series game and he started going off about he don’t waste his time in front of the tv all day and has to work nights making sushi at another place. Again, I just shook my head and thought what a psychotic dude. This was my first time meeting this guy and he just looks mad. If the same wait staff is still there, check it out for yourself. The bar and restaurant is very nicely decorated and looks very professional, unfortunately I can’t say that for some of the people who work there.
place is prettty amazing!. awesome staff at night not a big fan of the day time staff except the bartenders! everything on the menu is really good.. you should try the shepherds pie although it could use a little more meat in it its still good!
Toast to hearty foods and a friendly Irish vibe at the beachfront outpost of the beloved local pub..
In Short
Smiling bartenders welcome patrons at all hours of the day. Morning fare ranges from traditional (ham and eggs) to adventurous (french toast crusted with Cap'N Crunch cereal. For lunch and dinner, find chicken sandwiches, steaks and burgers that the restaurant boasts are "bigger than an irishman's heart." At later hours the eating gives way to dancing and occasional live music, but Hennessey's still provides a laid-back respite from the "spring break" beach scene.
