“It's really cute inside, pinatas everywhere, and has it's own parking which is cool for Old Town, but the customer service was reaallllly bad!”
“So anyways, food & drinks overpriced, cold, chips were cold & greasy, ewwww!”
“But I thought the food was mediocre at best.”
“we were told by friends that the most authentic place was at la pinata 's.”
“i had the guacamole enchiladas- fabulous”
“BUT if you want REAL Mexican there's a little place in barrio Logan called La Dona, 1784 Newton Ave, (between Beardsley St & Sigsbee St) 233-4939, that place is inexpensive, portions are big and very authentic!”
We are frequent visitors of Old Town. I definitely know there are much better Mexican food resturants further into Old Town, but my family has been coming here since the early 80s. This time we had 25 family members on a family reunion and they accommodated us with no problem and it was on a Saturday at the last minute....
I loved the food and there was almost too much of it on the plate, hardly could finish it. It's not too expensive and the waiters are friendly and helpful. I loved the bright, colorful interior of this place.
We have been enjoying La Pinata in Old Town for over 40 years. We moved away from San Diego and haven't been to La Pinata for years. This month (May, 2011) we went back and nothing has changed; the food is still absolutely delicious. The gucamole is the best in America. The Sour Cream Enchiladas (a house specialty) is exceptionally tasty. After you sit down, they deliver their signature cheese crisp. You will NOT leave this restaurant hungry, the portions are enormous. We ate here twice during our recent San Diego Visit. You will not be disappointed!
This is a tiny restaurant just outside Old Towne. It was a real find...the food was great...the portions huge! I loved my sangria. This is an easy going place that has been around for many years...the colours were very vibrant and pinatas hung all over the ceiling. I'm sorry that other ppl had a bad experience but I will for sure go there again the next time I am in San Diego!
Went with an old timer who really likes this place. We ate outside. Both the service and food were excellent. Our friend had the three meatball soup and it was excellent. My wife and i had burritos and they were unique and excellent. This could be my favorite in Old Town.
For the price of one meal, at the Old Town over priced eateries, we had a great meal for two. We got this to go and it took all of 10 minutes to order, cook it and out the door – this was for two meals. There were 8 tables in various stages of service. The steak was good, eggs were done right and ... what can you say about beans? This is a *man meal*. If you’re staying in the area and your motel is close enough, I highly recommend this place for a carry out meal.
Customer Service,Food,Drinks no bueno!. I don't want 2 write a bad review but I feel it's my DUTY to tell you this place isn't good. It's really cute inside, pinatas everywhere, and has it's own parking which is cool for Old Town, but the customer service was reaallllly bad! The waiter came up like 1 minute after we were looking at the menu said "you ready?" No hello, how r u, that kinda thing. And it wasn't a language barrier cuz I speak espanol. So anyways, food & drinks overpriced, cold, chips were cold & greasy, ewwww! Food was just typical American style Mexican. BUT if you want REAL Mexican there's a little place in barrio Logan called La Dona, 1784 Newton Ave, (between Beardsley St & Sigsbee St) 233-4939, that place is inexpensive, portions are big and very authentic!!
Worst possible customer service. When you look at their website, La Pinata claims to be open until 9:30 on Saturday night. When you call them, they claim to be open until 9:30 on a Saturday night. And when you show up at the front door, their sign indicates that they are open until 9:30 on a Saturday night. But don't be fooled - if you show up at 8:45, they'll tell you they're already closed. What sort of business strategy is that? I wish I could have commented on the food, but the service STUNK!
Editorial Review. Old Town Mexican favorite stands the test of time with traditional menu, mariacchis and casual, colorful patio.
