Felt like I was in Brasil. My mom is from Brasil, so I wanted to take my boyfriend here to have him try brazilian food. First of all, the website makes it appear like a bigger, well decorated place. This is not true. It is small, open, and bar-like, but it actually feels like you're right in Brasil. The owner is the only server (at least when I went there around 5:00), and speaks with a very thick brazilian accent. There are lots of little brazilian signs and bar-decor that made me feel like I was right back at a little family-owned place in brasil. The food was on the high-end of prices for what you get, but I thought it was worth it. We ordered pastels, coxinha, croquette de carne, kibe and empadao de frango. The pastels were very big, and the cheese pastel was quite oily, but the beef pastel was amazing. The croquette and kibe were good too. I especially loved the empadao. It really tasted like something my mother would make. There were so many chopped vegetables like green olive and carrot that you really felt like it was home-cooked. We went on a Friday night, and at 7 she said that they would have a live brazilian band. I have no idea how they fit it in there, but I can imagine it would have been nice ambience. Overall, it's pretty decent brazilian food if you don't want to go through the work of making these things at home. It's veryyyy casual, kind of like a roadside diner, so don't expect much in that area.
I hated it!!!.
Well, I am brazilian and I am passionated about my country... and after living in US for 2 years, I miss our cusine a lot. So I tried "Brazil by the Bay" 3 different times. I had tri-tip, moqueca, and feijoada, all very traditional brazilian dishes wich I love, hummm... I didnt like any of the dishes they served me. Specially if you havent tried brazilian food before, you're gonna say you dont like it. Our cusine is famous for being very tastefull, rich and creative, but not @ Brazil by the Bay. I don't know if they don't have any talent for cooking, or if they don't care about their food quality. Truth be told: food is not even more than all right, very small portions, and very expensive for what they are offering.
Next time that I miss brazilian cusine, I'll cook myself @ home, I'm pretty sure I can do better.
