Stay away from this business owner! My furniture was delivered dirty and damaged. I was not willing to taking off work, have someone pick up the furniture, and repair it at the stores convenience so I became the bad guy. The owner said he would give me a credit for having the furniture professionally repaired, but he didn't honor his promise. The owner also told me he didn't want my business. I see that comment has appeared in a few reviews. I hope everyone boycotts this place so the owner can receive his wish of not having any business. The owner seems to be the core issue of this businesses problems.
Beautiful Store!. This is a gem in Mission Valley. The store's decor is inspiring (can they come do my house?!) and it makes me want to take every piece home with me. The staff has been extremely helpful during purchases and often go above and beyond when it comes to finding measurements! They even layed out the furniture in my space on the computer to make sure different items would fit well together!! Will be back for sure!

If I could give this store NEGATIVE STARS, I would!! We spent a small fortune in this store furnishing my son's apartment. He really liked the modern look and masculine feel of the pieces he picked out. After all, it IS a beautiful store when you first walk in.
Well, the good experience ended at the register. The salesgirl told us that the furniture would be assembled by the delivery crew, and pictures hung where we wanted them. Well, they did assemble the furniture, but would not hang the pictures. As a matter of fact, their response, when asked, was...."Yeah, YOU usually do that yourself with a hammer and a nail." My son unwrapped the pictures himself, after they left, and discovered one of the paintings had a slash in it. He immediately called the store and was told by the same salesgirl that she would look into it......no call back ever came and never a return phone call. We called, spoke with the OWNER....he told us we were lying, his crew would never treat us that way and no merchandise would leave his store damaged. When asked to please replace the painting, his response was, "Huh, THAT will NEVER happen!"
PLEASE, do NOT buy from this store....you will be wasting your hard earned money. These are not nice people to do business with. We will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and probably going to small claims court, just to show him he can not get away with this. This guy is a creep!!!
Beware if your Hold it purchase breaks!. We have bought eight pieces of furniture and numerous accessories from Hold it and have always had good service when buying however when the furniture has broken that has been a different story. We had an office chair break after 1 year and this was replaced however the replacement broke after 18 months and we were told that nothing would be done. On asking a second time we were given a gift card for part of the value of the chair. A neighbor had the same chair from this store which also broke in the same way. Soon after, a lounge chair broke (after less than 3 years of use) and we have again been told that the store will not do anything to repair this. In addition it was implied that we had already received a gift card for this breakage which of course was the gift card from the broken office chair. This does not indicate good record keeping. These items broke due to poor quality and I cannot believe that this store does not realize the value of looking after its customers particularly as the repair will be fairly inexpensive. We will certainly never shop there again and will make sure that our downtown neighbors are aware of the risk in doing so. On a positive note we looked elsewhere for a $1000 rug that we had been going to buy from Hold It and found it online for $350 less so the bad service actually paid off for us!
I used to work for Hold It in San Diego a few years back, and the owner Mike was totally crazy. He was constantly stressing out, and had some very serious anger management issues. He was horrible to most of his employees (although he was always very nice to the females), constantly screaming and cussing at them, and just being a general jerk. Nobody liked him at all. What's funny is he actually told me before he hired me that he was having trouble keeping good employees around...Wow, I wonder why? LOL! That should have been a red flag for me right there!
Anyway, I'm sure there are plenty of disgruntled customers out there who have had to deal with this nutjob in the past, as his furniture is waaay overpriced, and is really just piss-poor quality MDF at that. You can find the same sh*t at Ikea for a fraction of the price! I remember how he would be talking on the phone to a customer in his office, then right after he'd hang up you could overhear him angrily cursing at that person every bad word he could think of. I'm surprised he hasn't gone off the deep end yet because I swear he was close to the edge back then, he really seemed ready to snap! He was one of the angriest people I have ever come across in my life. My advice, DON'T shop at Hold It unless you want sh*t furniture, poor customer service, or enjoy dealing with a loony, angry furniture store owner!
Customer since 2001. Purchased a dinette set on sale. Table was to be NEW, per salesperson Tiffany and acknowledged by Esau, who was (past tense) my regular salesperson. Four chairs were purchased "as is" floor models. Paid for overpriced delivery and received used floor model table (base and glass), not new table as agreed upon. End-cap missing on chrome leg and scratches on chrome leg. Suddenly Esau, my faithful salesperson, doesn't "recall" that I was to receive a new table. How do you feel, Esau, having trashed a faithful customer who actually requested you during the sale? "Management" took another week to send a message that they could do nothing for me. This is not a large store and "management" could not address this for seven working days? So sorry, "Hold It" and Esau.You just lost a long-time customer who had spent literally thousands of dollars in your store over a $79 table base that you refused to replace with the new one I actually purchased.
UPDATE: Owner had Esau phone me after finding reviews online. Owner agreed to replace table base with the new one that I was promised at time of purchase ONLY IF I WOULD REMOVE MY NEGATIVE REVIEWS ONLINE. This paints a clear picture of this owner's business practices.
