Wonderful and unique dining experience!. Being from Portugal, I don't have a lot of choices available in San Diego where I can get food with the flavors I am used to. One of the most similar cuisines I can find is the Moroccan cuisine. Both cuisines share a lot of the same flavors and ingredients, being that the Moors once occupied most of the territory that is now Portugal and our culture was immensely influenced by this beautiful culture. One day, while craving something that reminds me of home and with a little internet research, I found Kous Kous. I remember being very excited about it and this dining experience was everything I imagined. At arrival, I introduced myself to the owner who is absolutely charming. The ambiance was amazing. Nothing over the top as sometimes you see in certain Moroccan restaurants. Just beautifully and tastefully decorated while keeping with the Moroccan traditional style. The food was wonderful. I particularly love the Full Sampler in the Tapas & Sides section. It is served with Pita and is a treat for your taste buds. You also get a small plate with the best seasoned olives you've ever tasted has a complimentary appetizer to start your meal with. We have now gone a couple of times and have tried most of their Tagines which are wonderful. My husband and I also like the Merguez, grilled spiced beef and lamb sausage. Both times we have ended our meal with the Orange Blossom Berry Plate which makes for the most delightfully way to end your meal. Believe me, this is more than just a fruit plate. The slices of fruit are infused with a lightly sweet and delicate syrup and sprinkled with cinnamon. Now, the one thing I want to recommend is the mint tea. Drinking mint tea is one of Morocco's best kept traditions, and I have to say that the one they serve is so delicious that that's what I crave the most. I order it immediately and have several refills throughout the meal. I love this place! It's a beautiful place to go for any occasion.

Take your mouth on a journey thousands of miles away. What I love about this place is the perfect combination of everything essential to making a great restaurant. What is this great combination you ask?

#1 the Food:

I have been to Morocco, and have eaten many different meals from that culture, and the Shrimp Brochette I had last Sunday at Kous Kous, ranks not only as one of my favorite Moroccan meals, but as one of my favorite meals of all time, period.

#2 The Ambiance: While descending a set of stairs off of 4th street, you'll likely wonder what your about to find, and then suddenly you'll enter the doorway of a beautiful San Diego gem. Ancient Moroccan lamps and window shades adorn the ceiling and walls, the lighting gently compliments both the restaurant and your fellow dinners, and on the other side of the room a projector plays a silent black and white film from Hollywood's romantic embrace of Morocco. I doubt Rick's Cafe ever looked this good!

#3 The Service: Upon entering I was greeted Moumen, the charismatic owner / chef who made me feel at home instantly. Beyond that, our server was, kind, knowledgeable about the menu and a quick draw to the refill on our drinks.

The aromas of slow-cooked meats and exotic spices waft through this hidden Moroccan restaurant and lounge in Hillcrest.. In Short
Richly colored fabrics, ornate lanterns and dark wood furniture create an enchanting atmosphere for dinner. Raised in Marrakesh, owner Moumen Nouri shipped all the decorations straight from Morocco. He also brought with him an idea of how food should be--slow-cooked and filled with flavor. Menu items include marinated chicken, beef and lamb dishes served with couscous and garnished with honey caramelized raisins. Many include "Ras el hanout," a blend of more than 20 spices.
