The Scene
This contemporary mega-resort features one of San Diego County's loveliest locales--on a private peninsula that juts into the southern end of San Diego Bay just minutes from lively downtown.

The Details
Boasting its own private marina, the resort attracts its share of yachters and boating enthusiasts. Many of the well-appointed, yet somewhat bland, guest rooms offer views of the bay, the San Diego skyline, and beyond to Tijuana, a mere 20-minute drive away. Despite the grandeur of the surroundings, the ambience is ruled by a relaxed elegance and a casual California style. In the newly built full-service spa, treatments are offered in 15 different rooms. In addition, as sailboats drift by beyond the large outdoor swimming pools and the 3,800-square-foot herb garden, guests can plan their daily activities, whether it be feng shui classes, simply delving into a good novel, or sunning themselves until evening rolls around and the hotel presents marshmallow roasts on the beach.

Beautiful and well equipped

The Loew's Coronado Bay Resort is a beautiful hotel and quite well equipped with every possible amenity. On arrival we were made to feel welcome, as we were throughout our entire short visit there. Our room overlooked the water and gardens and was spacious and very attractive. We did not eat in the restaurants but did have a drink in the lounge and that too was lovely. The hotel was clean, luxurious feeling and was a good value. The only downside was that it is apart from the downtown Coronado Bay area. That can be a plus or minus, depending on personal feelings.

Pros: lovely hotel

Cons: not close to downtown
