Awesome.
Love, love, love this place for breakfast. Why?
This is the ultimate Jewish deli type restaurant - they have a deli counter and freshly baked cookies, including traditional Jewish type dishes. They have a small store full of nick knacks and paddy whacks. And of course, they have a huge dinning room. Walk in and have them seat you (if you get there on Saturday or Sunday, there may be a 30 minute wait - it's worth it).
Once you are seated, you get a huge menu to choose from. Think of just about any type of breakfast food and it will be on the menu. If you like Matzo Ball soup, there is no better place to have it than here. Want a pastrami sandwich on rye, oh yea, they have it. Want to impress or disgust your friends, order the tongue sandwich - it is AMAZING.
I always order the soup and sandwich combo. I get matzo ball soup and tongue sandwich (I swear, watching Bizarre Foods starting me on my crazy food eating spree - and believe me, tongue tastes like a cross between pot roast and pastrami....Yum)
If you are less adventurous, there are hundreds of tasty items on the menu to choose from. And don't forget to have one of the free huge pickles on your table while waiting for your order to arrive.

Sandwiches are piled high with pastrami, cheese and slices of other cold case favorites at this deli open for breakfast, lunch and dinner..
In Short
La Mesa's New York-style deli serves oversized sandwiches, hearty dinner platter and specialties like cheese blintzes and potato pancakes that can be hard to find in San Diego. Open since 1980, the restaurant has expanded five times since its humble beginning. It includes a take-out deli, bakery and gift shop in addition to the main dining room. Like at any respectable home-style spot, the breakfast menu is available all day.

Best in San Diego - almost NY quality.
NY style deli:
The menu also boasts 134 sandwiches (including awesome Triple-Deckers) piled sky-high with fine Deli Meats as well as complete Dinner Entrees such as: Corned Beef and Cabbage, Roast Brisket of Beef, Stuffed Cabbage Rolls. An entire menu page is dedicated to the fountain menu which includes Sundaes, Shakes, Malts and Sodas with every delicious accompaniment imaginable.

My FAVORITE DELI!.
I love this restaurant. My daughter gets the Matzo Ball soup every time. My favorite is the pastrami on rye. The bakery is AMAZING. I've sampled almost every dessert there. For cakes, the best is the one with the sliced kiwi's on top. It's a Jewish Delicatessin and the last time I was there I got a box of Hannaka Cookies in the shape of the star of David, Menorah and Drieydl. Where else can you find stuff like that in San Diego. If you're into fancy, shmancy places - this is not for you. The decor is 'diner - 50's style'. If getting a dessert, I recommend the "Bloomingdales" - and split it with at least 5 friends.
