In Short – Under the sloping roof of Kearny Mesa's Japanese steak and sushi destination is a mixed environment. There's a Zen garden with a blend of rocks, shrubs and delicate pastel flowers. Then there's the teppanyaki display, where slick chefs slice, dice and set flames to foods on a grill in front of customers. People who just want a good old plate of shrimp tempura or crunchy sushi rolls can aim for the traditional dining area. –
Better than Benihana

I was first introduced to Shogun Kobe many years ago for a business meeting. The lounge is really cool and features a karaoke stage and very comfy chairs and tiny tables to sit around. The building is U-shaped, with a rock garden in the middle. The restaurant part features teppan-yaki tables and very friendly chefs. Their food is excellent and the atmosphere can't be beat. One of my favorite non-sushi-bar Japanese restaurants in San Diego.
The Details on Shogun Kobe
Know Before You Go:
Don't worry about your sub-standard chopstick skills. With menu items like the Las Vegas Roll, Shogun doesn't stick to Japanese tradition.
What to Drink:
Shogun has fun with cocktails. Look for the rumbased Karate Punch or the Green Tea Martini - made with vanilla vodka, green tea liqueur and triple sec.
