“Their chips were soft and the salsa wasn't fresh.”
Not good at all.
My husband and I stopped at Tio Leo's yesterday for lunch. We noticed that the parking lot was nearly empty, figured since it was about 2:00 PM, the lunch crowd had gone. When we walked in, despite only one other customer, it took a while for the hostess to stop chatting with another employee and come to seat us. We nearly left - we should have, but we were starving. We were promptly brought a basket of hot chips and bland salsa. The chips were really good, not at all greasy, but the salsa tasted like nondescript bottled stuff. We noticed that the combo meals seemed to be overpriced, and opted for the ala carte menu. My beef and bean burrito was good-sized, but topped with a thin, watery, completely tasteless orange sauce and a very skimpy sprinkling of cheese. Even the three shriveled black olives on the side didn't have any taste. My husband's chicken enchilada was on the small side, with the same day-glo orange "sauce" on it. He also ordered a side of Spanish rice, also bland and tasteless. After a few bites, I asked for a box and brought the rest home. With a healthy dose of Tabasco and a good sprinkling of Hatch chili, it made an at least edible lunch today. The service was okay, but we were the only people in the restaurant for most of the time. The restroom was not clean and there was sauce splattered on the mini blinds at our booth.
I was surprised by the positive review here, but noticed that it was from 2005. Maybe the place was better then. You can make better burritos with Old El Paso canned beans and sauce than Tio Leo's makes.
Not the best. A bit hard to find, Tio Leo's is set back from the street a bit. At least there's a large parking lot surrounding it. My chicken enchilada was greasy and the chicken was dry. Their chips were soft and the salsa wasn't fresh. With other Mexican places in the area, I'd go elsewhere first.
