. . . what more can you ask for. My husband and I stayed in "Flat B" for two nights in February. The previous posts are all accurate regarding the amenities, so I won't repeat. Linda met us at the door and provided a very thorough tour of our suite, the house and grounds. If I had to describe our suite in one word, it would be "comfortable". We parked our car in our assigned spot (for free) and didn't see it again until we were ready to leave. Literally everything is within walking distance. This part of San Diego is a high density, urban area where parking is at a premium. We were pleased not to have to deal with it.
We are both very finicky when it comes to sleeping arrangements, and these were perfect. An extremely comfortable, huge bed, a dark room (after closing blinds and turning off lights), with little street noise at night.
Not a complaint, but a word of advise: Flat B has a beautiful, antique claw-foot tub, with very high sides. As a proven klutz, I felt the need to have my husband's help in getting out of the wet tub as there isn't a handrail (which there shouldn't be in this period bathroom). Keep this in mind if you have any mobility problems.
We stayed at Mudville Flats for 3 nights in March 2012. We chose it due to the location, the (free) secure parking and because we'd rather stay in small independent places if possible. We were really pleased with our choice and would definitely stay here again.
It's in the East Village and within walking distance of the Gaslamp district, the downtown shopping areas, the baseball stadium and the sea. We used the car to visit Coronado and the zoo but you could easily get around without a car staying here. The owner Mike was there to welcome us and had loads of useful information and tips on good local restaurants and bars. The accommodation itself was great, we had Flat A (on the ground floor) and it was really clean and spacious and had a nice, personalised touch that you just don't get in hotels. Overall we loved it and would recommend it.
We stayed at the Mudville Flats for 6 nights . We found the location ideal. It is close to the Gaslamp Quarter,Horton Plaza, many sights and many great restaurants. Linda and Mike were very helpful and so gracious when I managed to blow a ciricuit in the late evening and when all of San Diego was under a power outage for a night. They really care about their guests. The Kitchen has all you need, the beds are comfy, the rooms tastefully done with a great bathtub, Direct TV and a nice deck with access to the garden and BBQ if you want to grill!
We stayed at the Mudville Flats Aug 19 - 21. My husband & I just live in North County, but didn't have a lot of time for a "get-away", so opted for a "stay-cation" for our anniversary. What a treat! Linda was so helpful & knowledgeable about things to do in the area, including things that would interest someone who is not a tourist! She also presented us with an amazing bottle of wine as a GIFT for our anniversary! The area has some great restaurants - one of our favorites was the Cowboy Star. We tried several of the places recommended, all were fabulous. The apartments are a wonderful craftsman style and take you back to a different era with wood paneling, beams, floors. The bed... so comfortable! Prices are so reasonable, we will definitely be back!
My wife and I stayed here for the weekend if September 10th. We were traveling to shoot a wedding, but also planned on taking some time to hit up the museums at Balboa Park and to relax. I'll admit that this place wasn't my first choice, but I am really glad we stayed here!!! Beautiful rooms and a gorgeous little patio yard outback. I ADORE bungalow style design and this place was perfect! One of the owners, Mike, was a super nice guy and really made us feel comfortable. Definitely recommend and will stay here again :-)
We had three nights in Flat D at Mudville, and loved our stay! The flat was furnished really well, with some lovely antiques.
The flat was large, and had everything we wanted, it was lovely at the end of the day to come back and sit out on the peaceful balcony. Linda was really helpful, and recommended several places to eat, which were all really good.
Situated not too far from the Gaslamp area, we found it an easy walk to all the sights and to the boardwalk to get the ferry over to Coronado. We mentioned that we were going to the airshow at Miramar while we were there, so Mike printed us a map and directions.
This was our first trip to San Diego, and we loved it - we will definatley visit again, and stay at Mudville.
My wife, "Mickey" Mantle, recently offered a trip to San Diego to celebrate my eleventh consecutive 60th birthday. Our choice of Mudville Flats was based mostly on the rave reviews displayed on this page by earlier guests .
Others have extolled the delightful marriage here of 19th century design and ambience with 21st century comfort and convenience at this unique inn, along with the charming bonus, even to Canadians, of the baseball memorabilia. They were spot on.
Even more pleasing for us, though, was the hospitality and guidance offered by our hosts, Linda and Mike. (Imagine my delight at being greeted at the door on my birthday with a solo H BD greeting, and a bottle of merlot strung to a celabratory balloon!)
Both Linda and Mike were available 24/7 without ever being intrusive.
Trust me. We've never found a more restful and convenient stop anywhere!
