Remember when?

Man...i used to absolutely love this bar. I guess I still do. Although now it's just a matter of looking past the cover charge and influx of new wave hipsters who outgrew moondoggies and the pb bar and grill. If you are into the meat scene, definitely check it out on the weekend, friday and saturday nights. Great music, excellent drinks and incredible staff. But if you're like me and you long for the old days when all the north park nobodies kept it like a secret...try game night on thursdays or chillin on the sideline for a sunday bloody mary.

  • Pros: I have never had a bad night at the whistle stop. ever.
  • Cons: silly kids in their name brand get ups.

Best Bar In San Diego

by brandis at Citysearch

This is the best bar in San Diego. There's something fun happening almost every night ... cool bands, film screenings or even board game night there is something for everyone. Best night is One Nation with local dj's Blackstone and Atari, which happens just one Saturday a month. Amazing music and a great crowd that loves to dance and have fun without any attitude. The trivia night is also almost always a blast.

Whistle Stop is big enough that you are always sure to meet some new people, but small enough that everyone who visits feels like it's their own personal bar. I love it.

  • Pros: One Nation!

Good for avoiding the lines!

A great neighborhood bar and one that you can walk to if you live in the area - definitely don't have to worry about the long lines!

Some nights a hoppin' dance venue, others an afternoon knitting lounge, this neighborhood bar pleases artsy hipsters and old-timers alike.

In short
This South Park neighborhood bar, green and red interior with revolving local art, pool tables, juke box and DJ box draws the local, artistic crowd for strong drinks and reoccurring events. Weekly live music begins at 9pm and ranges from jazz to acoustic, while DJs surprise night crowds with eclectic mixes. "Friends chill night" and "knittin' time" add to this bar's friendly, down-to-earth appeal.
