A little over two years ago, I started searching for a new church home. Made a list of churches within a given area, with the goal of visiting each in turn. Never got past the first – the United Church of Christ of La Mesa. The warmth of the welcome, the sermon, the compatibility of the progressive theology with my beliefs and the amazing range of activities , both “in-house” and in the broader community spelled “home” to me. And home it has become. Perhaps the most telling result for me is the depth of my involvement. I had long been a “regular” at another church’s services, but had never felt drawn to participate further. Has that ever changed! It all started when I volunteered to write a column for the newsletter. As such things often do, that opened the floodgates. I now edit the paper, do publicity work, design posters, participate in various classes and groups, etc. – and, most important, have experienced an expansion of belief that has opened my eyes and heart to a whole new world of faith. As a thriving community of faith committed to the belief that God’s love is extravagant and unconditional, we welcome EVERYONE. As a church family we “do together what we cannot do alone.” I invite you to “give us a try!”
