my sister and i went to confidential a few weeks ago off a tip from the concierge at our hotel. let me just say it was great!!! the food was fabulous, you have to try the ahi and scallops. we only had a quick bite, stayed mostly for drinks and dancing, but it's definitely a menu worth exploring (being tapas and all). the atmosphere was very fun, kind of LAish, and the DJ was really great--he played everything from hip hop to house to rock. all of this was great, but the best part was the service!! Our server Cathrine was really fun. it was pretty dead when we got there and she hung out and chatted with us, giving us recommendations for the rest of our trip, talking about the cute boys that worked there and ALWAYS making sure we had a full drink. the security guards were nice when they moved us to a new table (they get rid of the middle tables for dancing) and when we got drinks at the bar, the bartenders were great. one of them juggles and he's fun to watch. the end of the night was a bit of a blur but i remember being shocked when our server opened the door for us as we left and remembered our names!! it was a wonderful experience and i recommend confidential to everyone. pros- service, food, cute boys cons- expensive drinks

I've been to Confidential twice. The first time I took my husband there for his birthday. The wait staff was extremely helpful. They were all happy to make recommendations and managed to keep dishes and drinks coming without hovering over us. The second time was for a friend's bachelorette party. Yes, a bunch of giggly, rowdy women and, again, the same fantastic food and service. If you get a chance, try the infused vodkas. The Asian fusion tapas and the sliders were quite tasty.

Pros: Fun atmosphere, great food and drinks

Cons: Parking

Came here for a Thursday night art show upstairs that a friend of mine was in and was impressed. Nice atmosphere and beautiful wait staff that was not only nice to look at, but helpful too and surprisingly, no attitude. The appetizers were great & plentiful but unfortunately, I was not able to try any of the entrees. When I wanted to step it up a bit from the wine, I went to the bar for a few cocktails which although a bit on the pricey side, came fast and HARD. But then, this is the way I like them! Definitely more of a mellower, truly urban, local crowd than your usual PB/Dick's variety. Have been meaning to visit again during the weekend, but its a bit of a walk in heels from my East Village/Ballpark home. And ladies, this IS the kind of place where you CAN wear your nice clothes & shoes to - no flip flops here! Once I do and can have a comment about the dinner experience there, I'll revise/upgrade my review.

Pros: Great place for locals

Cons: Location: On busy corner near mall

We stopped in here on a whim and what a great surprise! We were in town for a few days and wanting a relaxing place to sit and talk. This was the place! Colin, the bartender, was not only a fantastic "dirty, dirty" martini maker but totally entertaining as well! Have you seen the movie cocktail? Tom Cruise has nothing on Colin. We met the manager who wanted to make sure all of our needs were met. DJ music was not too loud but still very nice. I recommend this for couples, new dates, old friends and new friends. The decor was eclectic but comfortable. I am usually not into trendy but this really worked.

Pros: bartenders, drinks and scene

Cons: possibly parking

I have been to virtually every bar/lounge in the Gaslamp at least several times and none of them compare to Confidential. The people are always beautiful and the management is fantastic. The last time I went they upgraded my table without me asking and literally kept the table spotless the entire meal. The ahi tuna was great as was the deconstructed pizza. Everyone loved the lamb burger sliders. We topped it off with desserts and my entire party loved it. The security staff always keeps out the San Diego Trash and I never have to wait in line for a drink. Overall, the place rocks and is the closest thing to a big city spot that SD has. I dont understand the people who bash Confidential - I guess they prefer to drink bud lights and fight beach jerks all night. Not me.

Pros: Big City Feel

Cons: none really

I went here during the week to grab a bite and a cocktail before going to a movie. The food was Gross...Not just bad but gross. My server apologized to me for the plate because she could tell that i was having a difficult time consuming the Duck Slider. the french fries tasted like they had been microwaved. The Bartenders are more interested in looking cool, than making a good drink. In my humble opinion, this place is over hiped by 21 year olds who are accustomed to eating fast food and top ramen. don't bother. oh..why play rap during dinner.

Pros: Close to the movie theater

Cons: Everything

A really well thought out tapas style menu in a chill, loungy atmosphere. The flavor combinations work well and there's a lot of variety. The service is some of the best in downtown San Diego - they are attentive and pay attention to the little things. The scene is beautiful people in their most fashionable clothes. The music during dinner hours is relaxed and then they get it pumpin around 10 or so (type of music depends on which night you're there). That's when you can meet the bartenders. They handle a crowded bar very well and with smiles on their faces. Overall a great experience from beginning to end. Highly recommended for a night you want to treat yourself and your friends or impress your business associates. One last thing, don't be late for your reservation, they don't hold them much past the time.

Pros: Ambience, bartenders, overall service

My friends and I go to Confidential Thursdays and Fridays for the local crowd. It's a quick trip from Little Italy, where I live, and attracts far less of the out-of-downtown-ers. Our bartender Jen is always super sweet.

Pros: Local & Attractive Crowd, Savvy Staff

My girlfriend and I had dinner at Confidential last week and it was great. The menu has a lot of variety and the server was really helpful in suggesting options and recommending plates. I definitely loved the ahi tuna tartar and the peanut butter banana dessert my girlfriend picked out. One of the best dining experiences we've had since moving to SD.

Pros: Trendy urban scene without compromised food or service

It may be hip-looking and they may have good food however the attitude of their management is not worth the trouble. Proceed with caution if making reservations. Be sure that your entire party is on hand and on time, otherwise your reservation may not be honored, even though there's no line to get in and you've called to apologize for being a little late!

Pros: It's on the end of the Gaslamp so it's fairly easy to get to

Cons: They apparently think that they're too exclusive
