I had the unfortunate experience last night of having organised to meet friends at this place, having flown in from Europe to celebrate my 30th birthday. My girlfriend and I didn't even get in the door because I didn't have my passport with me, despite having a European drivers license, residence card and various other forms of ID. We asked to see the manager but the security guy at the door claimed to *be* the manager so we phoned them hoping the real manager might be more sensible, but no - no passport, no entry. We tried the brewery next door but they had some lame excuse for closing the kitchen early so we ended up across the road at Hennessy's Irish Pub which wasn't bad. In any case we got a quick look inside and it looked very ordinary. Even if I had my passport I would have reservations showing it to them, and I really don't think I'd bother because San Diego has plenty of better establishments. Summary: Don't waste your time. Update: It's interesting that my negative views are shared by another reviewer, and one of the two positive reviewers (reece422) reads like it's written my a PR rep for these guys and is over two years old.

Pros: None.

Cons: Extremely poor customer service.

They pack the place on weekends so don't expect to get good service when they could easily fill your seat with another victim, uh, customer. In addition to the $10 cover for everyone if you have a party of 8 or more you will be charged 18% gratuity whether you like it or not - whether they deserve it or not - whether you have 8+ people on your tab or everyone is paying separately. At restaurants it's clear who is in your party - it's who is sitting at your table, 1 table. How do you determine a "party" at a bar? We were rudely informed that is server discretion. Don't meet anyone there and don't talk to people at other tables or they will consider them part of your "party". Both the manager and the server talked down to us, trying to talk us in circles hoping we were intoxicated enough so we would just give up. I'm really sad I had such a shi**y experience because the place used to be fun.

Awesome place to go unwind after work. AWESOME drink specials, good beer and a fun atmosphere. The "dualing pianos" idea is really fun, they let the audience request songs and everybody gets really involved. Slightly older crowd, but a good place to meet people!

Pros: Live music

Cons: Cover charge (for guys at least)

If you want to do something totally different while in San Diego where it is a casual atmosphere, great entertainers, awesome food, great staff and just an overrall good time...this is the place to go. The entertainers are incredible...they must know thousands of songs from the 50's, 60's to current alternative music because they play everything that is requested by the audience...or at least they fake it pretty good if they don't know something. The whole point is for the audience to be part of the show by singing all of the popular songs that we all sing anyway...regardless if we can carry a tune. There is some adult humor so don't be surprised by the language or inuendo and if you are sitting up front or they notice you are not participating, you will be called out. It's a great place to celebrate birthdays, bachelorette/bachelor parties, getting divorced, graduation, etc. They will get your guest of honor up on stage for a "roast" which is hilarious. They don't have a cover during the week except on Thursdays $5.00 after 8pm (College Night - cheap drinks, no cover with college ID) and Fri & Sat $8.00 that starts at 7pm...no cover if you are there early. Best suggestion for groups of 8 or more is to make a reservation to guarantee your seats because they don't allow you to hold tables/seats past 7pm. You will become addicted after your first visit to this place because it is just SO much fun. They have Souvenir Hurricane Glasses & Souvenir Shot Glasses that you get to keep with purchase of a drink/shot and who could miss the BIG A--BEER CUPS...hilarious. They have Bachelorette/Birthday packages and VIP Bottle Service as well. Best place in the Gaslamp Quarter by far!

Pros: Great music, great staff, fun drinks

Cons: No Parking other than street/garages

Editor's Review

Twin pianos fill the stage, drinks fill the tables, and sing-alongs of familiar choruses fill the bar.  See the full editorial review.
