I like the pizza at Basic, but the service is horrible. The girls that work there look miserable! No smiles, not friendly, and slow. I would only go back for the yummy pizza.

Pros: Good Pizza

Cons: Horrible service

This is our new neighborhood hangout in the East Village. I guess it's been open for a while, but we went last week to taste some local beers, and just had such an awesome time. The staff and bartenders are chill, but they still know a lot about beer. The pizzas are simple and cheap and perfect for low-key, but still very "downtown" kind of night. keep it up basic, and please, open up one of these places by the beach!

This is a great place to spend your Tuesday evening. They have art to look at and artists painting pictures right there in bar. Their salad was very tasty but was much bigger than I expected so it could be easily shared with at least two people. I had their mashed potato pizza and I would recommend it and will definitely get it again when I go back. The venue had a good amount of people when I arrived around 7pm and then around 9pm it really started to fill up. In addition to reading the various reviews about the venue a great way to get a feel for the venue is to check out this Web site ShindyTV. The shows hosts interview the staff and patrons at Basic and it is a great way to get the vibe of the venue, learn about their pizza see what the venue is like.

I wish I lived closer so I could have your pizza more often...plus, it's just a cool place to be. I love the loft feel throughout and the open air feel in the bar area. Make sure to order the salad & a pizza w/mash potatoes & bacon..weird, I know, but really tasty.

So the bouncer might have been out of line and the service may be "spotty" as other reviewers wrote but the food is out of this world! Don't let the others stop you from trying it because once you do, you will be hooked! I live on the east coast and make Basic a stop everytime I am in town. Don't pass up this San Diego treasure.

Pros: Food, its the best!

Cons: I live too far away to eat here every night!

Great thin crust pizza. I lived in Milan, Italy for awhile and experienced great tasting thin crust pizza while there. Been in search of something close since then. Basic is the closest I have found. You're given four (4) basic crust options (Red, Red w/cheese, White (no tomato sauce), While w/cheese). You choose the toppings. Great and convenient pre-Padres food stop. As good as the pizza is... the service could use a bit of polish. It's a bit spotty ranging from well intentioned but lacking to mediocre. I've been a few times and all three times the service varied quite a bit depending on who you get. Touching this area up would make the place tops on my list of recommended San Diego spots. ******************************** Follow-up review. In the past few months, I have observed a marked improvement int the service across the board. Kudos to the staff!

Pros: Great thin crust pizza

Cons: Spotty service

Everytime I think of this place, I start to crave the pizza. I was turned on to this place by my bro, and believe they should open one in Northern CA. Great scene, can get crowded on Game Day. If you like thin crust pizza, this is a must!

Pros: Amazing thin crust pizza

Cons: Only located in San Diego

The facts: Time - 10:30PM. Date - 4/30/2007. Granted access to Basic by Less the doorman. Ten steps later (I didn't even make it to the bar) I was kicked out by Less the doorman. Reasoning - the height listed on my CA state driver's license, 5',05" can't possibly be correct (I'm actually closer to 5',04") and is therefore grounds to forcefully escort me out of the bar like a common criminal. Fact - I've been coming to this local’s watering hole since its opening and have even managed to befriend some of its employees. Fact - I'm a 30 year old man who has not only served his country but has been a part of the San Diego community since 1999. Fact - Less himself had to be escorted out of the bar by his supervisor because my complaint of the matter got him so fired up he actually began making threatening gestures to assault me. Fact - I will never spend another hard earned dollar here and I recommend you don't either. It only takes one patron complaint to make or break an establishment, and I aim to break it. Basic you caught me on the wrong fu*^$&g night.

Pros: None

Cons: The doormen are ill trained and misrepresent an otherwise fine establishment.

Cool barteners. Cool crowd. Decent drink prices....I try and take all my friends that visit me from Philly here - I've always had a great time.

Pros: atmosphere, crowd, tons of space and a lack of attitude and trends

Cons: can't think of any
