Worst Oktoberfest I've been to

by Dria

This event is a flea market/business expo under the guise of an Oktoberfest event. How about that "German" music by the temptations, and the German Churros?

I think the La Mesa chamber of commerce or whoever is sponsoring this event is a bit confused as to what an Oktoberfest is about. If they don't want to host a traditional Oktoberfest, they should rename it to the La Mesa business exps. Their advertising is misleading. So, if you're looking for a REAL Octoberfest, go to El Cajon, San Diego, or Alpine Village in Torrance.

  • Pros: It was October
  • Cons: It wasn't an Oktoberfest

oktobefest '08 was terrible

by mattyl

After reading advertising of 6 stages and of live music and a block-long beer garden with festivities lasting from 11 am to 11 pm friday through sunday I was excited to see what the "biggest octoberfest this side of the mississippi" had to offer. my first terrible experience consisted of getting to the main gate with my wife and dog (i was told i could bring my dog becasue last year they were permitted) and being turned away because of a strict no pet policy. after an amazing hour round trip in traffic I made it back to the festivities and learned that apparently poodles, puppies, pitbulls and chihuahua's must be mistaken as service dogs because i saw several of those on the grounds which left me ticked off. after i calmed myself down i went to try some "authentic" German cuisine only to see that the food came from the proud german village of COSTCO which made me feel as if i were in the motherland. I'm done trying to be cute. You couldnt smoke and drink in the same place, there was only one stage with music that was average at best and the beer garden that was once a block long was nothing than the patio to a restaurant. Also i made the mistake of going back on sunday at 7 pm only to see that it had been closed for hours even though it was supposed to be open for anohter 4 hours. whoever the new management was for this year needs to be fired. the organizing of that event ws terrible! if i could use all 2,000 characters in this to explain my dissatisfaction i would but i'm exhausted. if anyone knows who actaully was in charge of Octoberfest please let me know so i can contact them directly and let them know how awful they are.

  • Pros: my own company of friends
  • Cons: it lack of anything good
