I was very disappointed after visiting Dearinger this morning - I'm new to the area and am looking for an excellent stylist...after doing some research online, I came up with three salons; Dearinger, Jet Rhys and David Perez. I set up consult appts at each salon to see which might be the best fit for me. This morning I showed up for my consultation, checked in and then waited for about 5 mins before the receptionist came over to me asking if I could come back two hours later as the stylist was behind schedule...I couldn't believe it, not just a wait of 15-20 mins, but two hours! Even if I wanted to return later, I couldn't as I had a previous engagement. I didn't feel like the people there were overly concerned or particularly sorry/apologetic, they didn't even offer any other suggestions or try to work with me. I walked out and won't return. Perhaps this sounds a bit harsh, but I don't want to patronize a place that pulls this kind of stunt - certainly not good business practice or customer service. They may well do fabulous cuts, but I'd rather go to a salon where my business is appreciated, where my time is respected and valued. (By the way, I had excellent consults with David at David Perez Salon and Dani at Jet Rhys.

I have to admit, I won't be going back to Dearinger Salon in San Diego. The colorist did a great job, but the girl "josie" who cut my hair didn't seem to care at all about the quality of my haircut. When I got home the sides of my hair were NOT even AT ALL and my bangs are hideous, the top layer is half way up my forehead and the rest are at my eyebrows. I don't get what she was trying to do. She seemed too busy to put forth any effort to make it look good. I don't know if she used cheap scissors but the ends of my hair are now frizzy and blunt rather than soft. It is a nice quality salon and like I said, the colorist who did my hair did a good job but now I have this headache of a haircut to try to deal with. I also don't like the fact you have to tip 2 seperate stylists, one to color your hair and one to cut it.
Pros: nice staff
Cons: horrible haircut

I went to Dearinger and found it to be one of the best experiences I've ever had. I hate it when the stylist doesn't give me options or suggestions, but rather wants me to tell him or her what to do. At Dearinger the stylist and colorist were so helpful and friendly. They made excellent recomendations based on my hair type, etc. I came out feeling confident about my new look! I have gotten so many compliments that I just had to review this great salon.
Pros: knowledgeable, creative, and professional

I had been going to Dearingers for almost 10 years. I had always picked up on the rudness of the onwer however I really liked the person cutting my hair so I just ignored it. Recently I wanted to them to style my hair for an event. I was told what they charge for the the whole procedure. This included a conseltation with the sylest ahead of time. The girl booking the appointment even went so far to tell me that they would not do the whole syle for the consultation. They call me to confirm the day before hand that I had a color conselation. I told them that I did not have a color concelation, that I have an updo consultiation. She we extremly rude on the line and just said, "whatever". When I get there on Saturday morning they sill don't know why I was there. The sylist comes over to my chair and says, "so this is not a color conseltation?" She did not wash or dry my hair just simply syled it quickly in a bun. I was fine with this because I thought this was the "trail". I go to the counter and they charge me $120.00. I said to the girl that I thought this was supposed to be included and she said no, we would never do that. I then told her she should call there downtown location (This being where I made the appointment.) and let them know because they had given me completly false information. After I left I called the downtown location. They were able to look up the person that gave me the wrong information and booked my appointment and there excuse was that she was new. That is it! That she was new. I'm sorry but if you have employees telling people services are included and then charge them $120.00 that is ridiculouse. I will never return to Dearingers again. Not only had I been going there for 10 years I also referred multiple friends who now go there and I will never do that again.

i have been in san diego a year and tried so many salons. i ask my lawyer where she goes as her hair is very cutting edge, she says lots of staff from her work been going there for years. i thought i would try it out. i very impressed. what i like most was they gave me ideas and i like a place that knows what they are doing. i could tell just how they work that there is a feel for the type of wotk they do. i liked my new hair and my mom just went and she was very happy.

I went to Dearinger in La Jolla on a Friday before my friend's Saturday wedding. The experience was awful; the stylists had no idea what they were doing and it was way overpriced. I went to Dearinger because I read a good review and I was short on time since the wedding I had to attend was the next day. My regular stylist was completely booked, so I trusted that Dearinger would be a good alternative, even though I knew it would be expensive. Boy was I wrong! First, I was placed in a chair in the corner of the salon (not at a station) without a mirror. I asked for a simple trim and blonde highlights to my already blonde hair. After 5 hours of sitting, my hair was green and a mucky brown color. I was furious. They tried a few different "color corrections" but it was horrible and my hair was breaking from all the treatment. The cut was completely ridiculous and unprofessional. I was horrified and refused to pay- no one was apologetic and everyone could see how terribly green my hair was. The spa owner demanded that I pay at least for the color, which I did (and later regretted) and I vowed to let everyone know how horrible their service and product was! On top of everything...they were pushing product on me! UNBELIEVABLE! I would have been better off buying a bottle of hair color at the store and doing it myself! Please do not even put your hair in Dearinger's hands...you will regret it!
Cons: Horrible Stylists and Rude Staff...Way overpriced

I will never go back here, rude staff, pushy and bad haircut, waste of time and $$. They were very pushy about buying hair products and didn't really care about my needs.

As with many of the other reviews, I did a search for the Best Colorist in San Diego. I kept coming across Dearinger Salon, and with their 1st time coupon, I figured that I would give them a shot. I had a lower level stylist cut my hair, and that seemed to go fine . . . but then again, all I needed was a trim for my long curly hair. Then, I tried my desperate attempts to explain to the colorist what I wanted. I explained that I wanted my hair a deeper richer brown, with some golden/taupe and light brown highlights. I even brought several photos. My one other request was that I did NOT want any red hues or brassy highlights. Needless to say, when my hair was done . . . my hair was auburn with brassy redish/gold highlights and a wierd burgundy tint to the hair closest to my roots (It looked like a burgundy headband). I was noticably unhappy, but left figuring that I would give it a minute to see what I thought. So, I waited a couple of hours and called in letting them know that I was very unhappy. they told me to come back in and scheduled me for a "Re-Color". I arrived for the appointment and brought additional photos. this time of myself from previous dye jobs. After it was all said and done, I still have burgundy looking roots, reddish brown hair and now had Platinum Blond highlights!!! It looks awful, but I was done with them F***ing with my hair. I was on my way out the door, and then i was stopped by them and told that I was now going to have to pay for these crappy highlights . . . adding insult to injury! I HAVE NEVER BEEN EXPECTED TO PAY WHEN THEY MESSED UP IN THE FIRST PLACE. I will NEVER GO BACK. My advice is to STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPLETELY OVERRATED SALON. This was my WORST HAIR COLOR EVER, and I have even had my hair dyed at really cheap salons. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: Costs a lot of money
Cons: No Skill. No Talent. Completely Overrated.

I recently moved to the area and was in need of a haircut. I did some research and thought this would be a great place to get my hair done since the reviews were so positive. WRONG! My stylist was rude. He didn't listen to me. I walked out of there with basically a trim and paid through the nose--$50. I was also pressured into buying an armload of products, which smelled yucky. I didn't. Overall, I found the place to be very overpriced and pretensious. Also, I don't dig the minimalist modern decor. Parking is near impossible. Don't even think about it in the tiny, teeny lot out front. I hated this place. I will never go back. AVOID AT ALL COST.
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything
