Cool and Hip. Cool, hip and happening. Be sure to go when it is dark, it is a much better vibe. First of all, this place is known for interesting drinks (very sweet drinks), and exciting people watching. I must honestly say, the drinks are too sweet for me, so I have to stick with a boring Kettle One with a splash of cranberry, while I watch everyone else enjoy their sugary delights.

Food...Yes, the food is great too. There are a variety of appetizers and main courses to choose from. If you don't want to sit in the bar, go outside an sit near a fireplace or in a cabana. Wow, what a great feeling it is to sit outside in the open air, while sitting in a cabana enjoying great food and drinks with your friends.

Try this place out.

Even better since the updates. I have always liked this lounge but it is even better now that they made some updates to the bar and dining area. Probably my favorite place to go in North Park.

The things 2 order at Lei... After reading the previous reviews, I thought you might need a little help w/the menu. After eating there more than a fair share, we came to the conclusion of: Kobe Beef Sliders: The spicy in house catsup is delicious. Have a side of sweet potato fries with powdered sugar & carmel sauce! What a finish!

If you want a nice fish place: the Mahi Mahi (with out the balsmic vinigar) The coconut rice is a sweet secret that if you are not paying attention, it will be gone!

The pom martini's are fresh & they will make it with your Vodka of choice if your a Vodka snob.

Enjoy!

Smokers ruined the charm. I read many reviews of Lei Lounge before choosing it for an anniversary dinner. After we arrived, were seated on the patio, and put in our orders, I smelled cigarette smoke, to which I am highly sensitive. I thought it must be coming from somewhere outside the patio walls. I was shocked to then see a waiter carry an ashtray to another table. We asked, and smoking is indeed permitted on the patio, even though it's enclosed on four sides by walls! I have never been to a similar restaurant that permitted smoking in such an area.

We moved into the bar (if we hadn't already placed our orders, I would just have left) , which is totally open to the patio but doesn't allow smoking. However, we lost the ambiance and comfort of the patio, and I still left that evening with itchy eyes and a cough.

No reviews I read mentioned the smoking, nor did the restaurant's webpage. If you don't want your respiratory system assaulted while you eat, beware!

Good for drink, BAD for FOOD. I went there just because the cocktail list and the good happy hour promotion. I admit that they have many exotic drinks and they look delicious... I tried Geisha, Chinese Iced tea and many other drinks some are good and some are not. One good thing though, they are all heavy on alcohol LOL, and most of us love about that fact!!!

Bad Food, I have to tell you, spring rolls were oliy and soaky eeeewww chicken skewers are dry and tasteless. The food is nothing but pricy and bad execution. I would suggest the restaurant hires a better chef or stop serving food.

Decoration is amazing of how you can do with the limited piece of land; Cabana brings lots of attention and people who love the lime light. LOL $200 minimum spending to sit on a cheap peice of furniture.

There are so many servers but they rather chit chat between themselves than giving a memorable experience to customers; which is too bad.

Not So Good. Ok I went here Monday night for San Diego Reataurant Week. I thought the point of this was to encourage people to come back to your restaurant sometime in the future. I will not be going back to Lei Lounge. The food was decent, my fries were cold when they came out, and they overcooked my first meal so while my two friends had food, I had none. The only time there was any attention given to us was when the waiter was taking our order, bring our food or our bill. Our water was never refilled. The service was horrible at our table, the cabanas on the other hand were receiving lots of attention. Overall I would not recomend this place to anyone, I would steer them away from it.

Beach-chic luau lounge brings the tropics to University Heights with island-inspired tapas, coladas and VIP cabanas.. In Short
Bamboo accents and tiki torches mixed with sleek, white leather seating give a sexy edge to this chill Park Boulevard haunt. Sip guava berry coladas or classic blue Hawaiians on the outdoor patio--private cabanas available--or at the long, narrow bar inside. Deftly placed among the lush foliage, LCD screens projecting tropical images enhance the swank luau theme. Snacks include shrimp mango rolls with hot and sour mustard dip and other Asian-Caribbean tapas.

Place for drinks and nightlife, not really dinner.... I have been here twice. Once was with a group of girls just to drink and hang-out in a cabanna. It was a lot of fun, though this is somewhat harder to do now that there is a $200 minimum in the cabannas. The second time I went to eat. I was really not impressed with the food. The crab empenadas were too fishy, spanish fries nothing special, chicken skewers dry and tasteless, beef kabobs tasteless. We had A LOT of other things, but nothing stood out as good. In terms of drinks the geisha drink with champagne is good, but the mojito seriously needs a strainer (its really ridiculous and a few of us sent ours back to the bartender.) Overall I would recommend eating somewhere else and then coming here to drink and chat with friends. Otherwise, over priced lackluster food.
