Great All Around!
by ibcandide
We recently booked a room here for a friend's birthday. Got the Choreographer's Suite with two adjoining rooms. The place was WAY bigger than the pictures on their website. Patio looks out to the pool and it is a GREAT place to just lounge (unfortunately, there is no entry to the pool from your patio). All of the utilities in the rooms were great and working!
From the time we arrived at the valet stand (which is a little pricey at $32 per car -- but it paid off) to the time we left, we were met by courteous people. We got there early so asked if we could leave our luggage there and they gladly took it for us. The front desk called me when our rooms were ready (so we were able to walk around the Gaslamp a little bit). We had to ask for some roll-aways and they were delivered to us by Wanda (who was super cool). She asked if we needed more towels or anything and to ask for her by name if we needed anything else.
We stayed on a Saturday night and went to a Padres Game the next day. We were able to leave our cars there at the hotel after checking out and not have to move them and pay for more parking (which is usually jacked up for game days). When we came back, we picked up our bags, got our car and took off. The only drawback was that I paid for the cars when I checked out (we had 4 cars staying there) and then as people came back to pick up their cars, they paid again. I thought the hotel record would have showed that we paid (I'm going to call them to figure this out tomorrow).
But all in all, the staff, hotel, rooms and location were all amazing and I HIGHLY recommend this hotel if you want to stay in the Gaslamp District!
- Pros: Staff was EXTREMELY nice, clean rooms, accomodating hotel
- Cons: Expensive valet

Whenever I travel to San Diego I always try to stay at Hotel Solamar. Not only are the rooms extremely comfortable, but the service by everyone is excellent. Also the restaurant downstairs has excellent entrees! Highly recommend!!

I stayed for two evenings at Hotel Solamar. I had read that the rooms were small but I did not find that to be the case at all. The rooms are comfortably appointed, extremely modern, and clean The service was great. I had only one meal at the hotel and it was excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others. It's conveniently located in the Gaslamp district close to shopping and restaurants.
- Pros: beautiful, modern decor, clean, friendly staff
- Cons: none

In Short
Located in the heart of the Gaslamp District near the San Diego Convention Center, this Kimpton hotel is convenient for both business and leisure travelers. The pet-friendly property features a modern design palette of aqua blues and chocolate browns accenting dark mahogany furniture. Guest rooms have plush beds, flat screen TVs with DVD/CD players, high-speed Internet access, oversized desks with ergonomic chairs and an honor bar wth treats, libations, spa products and flip-flops.
LOVED IT HERE!!! Had a great time!

Great little Boutiquey hotel in San Diego. Went here with my boyfriend and enjoyed it. Tasteful decor and small enough not to have the racket or the hustle and bustle of other hotels. I hate that!!
- Pros: Boutique hotel
