I have been all over the world and spent fortunes in great salons form Paris to Tokyo to Los Angeles and never found such talent! In the past I have experienced haircuts that were mediocre at best and always attributed it to my fine, blonde hair. Guess I just needed someone to understand me... Dario cuts YOUR hair (not the hair that you pointed to in the magazine). I have received so many compliments on my cut since seeing Dario and on top of all that he is sweet as can be. In addition to looking great upon leaving the salon, Dario paid attention to how much work I wanted to deal with and my cut was the exact level of work I was willing to take on. It also grew out so gracefully! In fact, it looked great for so long that I didn't even realize I needed a hair cut for almost 3 months. I don't recommend waiting that long of course but it is indeed testament to a GREAT cut. Go! You won't be disappointed!

If you try him once you'll never go anywhere else! I found Dario on citysearch; I've had him do my hair twice (cut, color, and highlights both times) and he is amazing! I was pleasantly surprised at how detailed he was and how much time he took to listen to exactly what I wanted each time I went. Most stylists listen briefly to what you want and the results are usually way off, but you'll never experience that with Dario. Even if you don't know what you want he talks you through each step to help you get the look that is best for you and your hair type. He does most of the work himself unlike other salons that overbook and leave you stranded. Also his assistant Shannon is great! The services are a little pricey, but worth every penny because you'll love your hair! I'm moving to Los Angeles and I told him I'd drive all the way to SD just to have him do my hair because it is so hard to find a good stylist! Thank you Dario and Shannon!

First of all, I would like to thank Dario and Shannon for being so amazing. This salon is like no other- it's small, more personal, friendly, and relaxed. Every time I go in I feel welcome like I am going to visit old friends. Tray Dario's tea it's good :) Secondly the cuts and color are fantastic! I can here about a year and a half ago with a bad hair cut from another salon down the street. Dario helped me grow out my hair and get it to what I wanted! Every time I came in he gave me a great cut and spectacular color. I have never seen someone so attentive to detail. I was recommended to Dario from my best friend with extremely thick hair, and her hair looks fabulous every time! I have extremely thin hair, and it also looks fabulous every time showing that he works well with all hair types. And yesterday I got a really fun cut and color- showing that he can do all styles, classic and funky! I already have gotten dozens of compliments! I have been to a lot of salons and this definitely ranks the highest among them all! I have never stuck with a salon and I look forward to coming in in the future- Thanks Dario and Shannon! You both rock!

Cons: Like someone else said, Dario can't do my hair every day ;)

I went to Dario to fix a bad highlight and lowlight job that was done by a salon in PB. He did exactly what I wanted. I love my hair and I get so many compliments! The staff was great and very sociable and attentive. I highly recomend this salon to everyone!

Excellent results and very professional. What a relief to finally find a salon that not only provides the very best no matter who you are, but also takes the time to inform you and give you a result that suits your lifestyle and your face. My highlights and hair cut are perfect; I've never had so many compliments about my hair. A great experience every visit. Dario and Shannon are always friendly, and truly talented. I went to Darios expecting a higher level of service. I was very specific about wanting a quick, dry cut. They said no problem. I told her several times not to wash my hair. She washed my hair anyways. I showed her a wig they had on display and told her I wanted the same cut. Instead of actually cutting my hair to that style she trimed my hair in the same style it was. I asked her not to dry my hair. She not only dried my hair but took out her curling iron and was so busy talking while doing this she burned my scalp! I screamed and pulled away from her. She didn't applogize. As I went to leave she had the nerve to ask me for a tip. I was in shock and so angry I paid and left. $54.00 for a bunch of stuff I didn't even ask for! I wrote to the management there and they responded saying I could come back for a free cut with the owner himself. I'd rather shave my head bald than walk back into that place!

Pros: nothing

Cons: didn't listen, didn't do what I paid for, burned me, over charged me

I have gone to "Dario Salon" in La Jolla three times. The owner, Dario, is a soft-spoken elegant young man who has the skills and talents to transform a woman to feel and look beautiful! At my first appointment, I decided to be open-minded and allow Dario to use his creative talents to design a haircut and color to accomodate my features. I sensed Dario needed no direction from me and I sat back and watched in awe as he created the softest most feminine hairstyle and color! I am thrilled with the "new" me and feel young again at the age of 54! His salon is decorated with style and comfort. His staff is friendly, highly-trained and personable. One feels welcomed and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I hope all who try Dario will also feel as do I...thrilled and relieved to have found an artist with such talent! I cannot begin to tell you the number of bad to horrible hair disasters I have had. With each new and revolutionary way of cutting, I have suffered at the hands and scissors of so-called experts. I gave up and just let my hair grow out. A friend told me about a remarkably calm and unaffected stylist Dario. I marveled at my friend's new hair style-it was chic, sleek and truly brought out her fabulous features. Although I had sworn off another cut, her new hair style looked so good and she exuded a new confidence I had never seen before, I took the plunge and put my head in the hands of Dario. One of the best decisions of my life. I will not bore you with the details of my terrific experience. In a word, this gentle man "got" me and my hair. He is a zen master of the dry cut. He understood the complexities of my hair and my time constraints to get ready in the morning. Voila, I was transformed by the magic of his vision and his scissor expertise. The price?...I would gladly pay double because of the personal attention and the amount of time Dario devoted solely to me. I have paid much more for cuts that were total disasters. Dario is a genius with the scissors and a gem of a person. What a terrific experience.

Cons: Parking, but the staff take care of you.

I love this salon! Today was my second visit and I booked my next two visits. Dario, Shannon and Jamie are friendly and efficient. There is no drama from them - they want you to look your best and take the time to talk with you and tell you what they are doing. They don't push product, but will tell you what they feel is best for your hair. Call for an appointment - you will not be disappointed. A very satisified client,

Pros: Great service, results are top of the line, wonderful experience

Cons: Parking can be a bit tricky, but not that bad!

I went here on a whim purely on the basis of the reviews on Citysearch hoping that 18 other reviewers were not wrong. After discussing and thinking about my haircut and color, Dario gave me a cut that which has held up to my washing and self styling - I was very happy when I left. I'm very satisfied both with the cut and color and the salon in general. Service was courteous.
