great dive

A British pub in the middle of Little Italy. A great happy hour joint. Food is so so, nothing spectacular but is what it is for bar food. The vibe is great for watching sports the bartenders are friendly.

fun bar, great service

by missadventure at Citysearch

This place has great fish and chips and the best fish tacos I've ever had! They have an awesome selection of beer and a full bar. It's a good spot to bring a group of friends and to make new ones. I have noticed a lot of Little Italy locals in there everytime I go. I've read some of the nasty reviews and I have to disagree! I've always had cheerful, speedy service and have yet to experience a bad meal! This place has hot bartenders and waitresses, too.

  • Pros: service, variety
  • Cons: overpriced

The worst bar I've ever been to. Nothing orginal about it. Drinks bad/weak. Over priced. Dirty. Foods gross.

I am originally from Oxford England but have resided in San Diego for over 10 years now. So I thought checking out the Princess Pub would be fun and maybe bring back some memories of home. Little did I know that it would turn out to be one of the worst bars I have ever been to with the worst service I have ever received. I started the night out with one of the beers they had on tap and it had a funny after taste that wasn't beer and the glass was dirty. But it wasn't a big deal so I ditched my beer and went to get another drink. I was with at least 7 other people ordering drinks it was loud and semi crowded and I yelled to the bar tender vodka RedBull please! He later came back with 3 or 4 drinks and I didn't see my drink so I waited and the only drink left was a red colored drink that turned out to be a vodka cranberry. So I said to the bar tender I think there may have been a mistake I ordered a vodka redbull. He said " No you didn't you ordered a vodka cranberry" and walked away( I have never ordered a vodka cran in my life!). I waited because even though he was rude I thought he would at least re-make my drink.. he never did. So a nice gentleman I was with went up to the bartender and asked to order a vodka redbull and asked why he wouldn't remake it and he simply said "that drink is already paid for if you want a vodka redbull you will have to buy one for $7.50". So he bought it to save us the trouble of arguing with this A hole. I begin to drink it and I kid you not there was not a drop of vodka in my drink. I take a few more sips and a lump of somethings appears in my mouth and clogs the straw. This is disgusting... I take the lump of whatever out of my mouth and discover its a black MOLD and I look at the bottom of my drink and it there is more lumps floating in my drink. I'm not sure if this man did it on purpose but he didn't care when I told him about it. A nice cocktail waitress later got me a new drink and apologized. I will never go back again

Stay away! Service & security is the RUDEST in the city

by manicminx at Citysearch

I've been irregularly frequenting this bar for the past 5 years & although I've usually gone during the day (I work in Little Italy) & the service/food is marginal, I go because it is one of the few bars in Little Italy that serves Guinness nice & cold. I've heard from others about how they were treated badly by either the wait or bar service, I never experienced anything too awful until Saturday 7/14/2007.

10 of us showed up Saturday night before midnight. Within 2 min of walking in, they yelled out last call. A few min later, we were told by the waitress that we need to "quit talking & to start drinking" because they would be closing soon. Then a security dude starts making his rounds to tell everyone that they would be closing in 10 minutes. 5 minutes pass & we were warned again twice by them both. Last time, he tells us that if we still have our drinks by the next time he comes around, he will TAKE OUR DRINKS away. We start moving towards the door (with beers in h& to finish up). Disgruntled security guy sees that we still have our (paid) drinks & starts to have some words with one from our group. We barely got out of there without getting thrown out. Keep in mind, we are a group of 30-45 year old professionals dressed nicely, not being loud & obnoxious at all. In & (forcibly) out, we were there for maybe 30 minutes at best.

I?ve been to many, bars all over the country, to pubs in Engl&, staying till closing at a few of them since the late 80?s & I have never been treated like this before. 2 days later & I?m still appalled enough to write. Obviously, my friends & I will definitely never be back but I?m also making sure to suggest to all 150+ office mates to do the same. Yet just another complaint to a growing list of others I?m sure.

If you happen to find yourself in Little Italy & wanting to knock back a couple of pints, do it someplace else unless you prefer insults & threats from service people. Shame on you Princess Pub!

Love Live music?

Want to hang with friends and hear covers from the beginning of time to present?

Want to get way too drunk and request that awful HAIRBAND music and HEAR IT LIVE?

("Eeevry Rose has its thorrrrrrns...")

Bless their busy souls, the Pub masters don't do enough advertising about their incredible gem of a piano player, local singer/songwriter

** JD Boucharde **

who, for tips, plays his heart out and lights up that back room every Saturday night with his own genius originals, current hits and the aforementioned oldies.

Heck, he'll play & sing "Itsy bitsy spider" for your kid if you're tipping him and nobody else is.

Bring the folks too, he'll play them some old Elvis rock or Hank Williams...

Come out, join us, the more the merrier!

9:00 pm Saturdays

Great beer * fun atmosphere* incredible LIVE music *

  • Pros: The LIVE music of JD Boucharde
  • Cons: Gets packed

The queen of San Diego's pub scene continues its reign thanks to die-hard local fans.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
As old and established as the British royal family, the Princess Pub is the crown jewel of Little Italy's non-Italian retreats. Forest green accents and a corner fire place give the place an Old English mark, as well as a wall-to-wall offering of imported beers, ciders, and ales. Join rowdy-but-friendly fans during the week's happy hour or catch any big game on one of several big screens.
