WHy hadn't I heard of this Place before
by Roblobski
I got suckered into going to this place for a night out on the town and wasn't really into it at first. The place is super big and there wasn't a whole lot of action in the space. To my dismay at around 10 o'clock people started coming in to check out the band and the place got really busy.
The drinks were good and the food was nice but it was the ambiance of the place that did it for me. Everyone was having a good time. Definitely a place I am looking forward to trying out again.
I can't speak for any other night then Friday because I think that is the only night they have live music.
It also has an outdoor patio which looked like it would be cool for lunch out in the sun.
- Pros: Awesome Service, Good Food, Cool Environment
- Cons: Downtown
Friday Nights at Bondi are awesome
by RoseJones
So I don't usually get involved in the whole ranking of good and bad bars but I felt this place deserved it. For the past three weeks my friends and I have discovered the joy that is live rock and roll music at Bondi. Let me preface this little review by saying that I am not a big fan of the whole downtown scene in general, something about excessive hair gel and guys that smell like girls turn me off a little. That being said, Bondi on friday nights has a completely different feel. Everyone from the hot door guy to the real "aussie" manager seems to be having a good time rocking out to the tunes played by the 2 piece band.
The music goes from 9 until late and there is always a good crowd. No elbows in the back or waiting 20 minutes for a drink but enough people to make it fun.
The drinks are good, the beer is cold, and the good times are there to be had.
I know my friends and I will be going back every Friday we can.
- Pros: Live Rock and Roll Music on Fridays, No Cover, Good Looking Staff
- Cons: Parking
Lost Aussie Feel
by Helddow
Where has all the Aussie gone in the past six months! There may be a meat pie and a beer but the rest has been lost. All decor but little substance.
- Pros: Bring it back to where it used to be and I will be back.
- Cons: Too much waiting, food served lukewarm and it took several attempts to get the order correct.
Hip new Australian restaurant & bar: crowded, loud and expensive!
by freebie_grabber
My uncle and I recently had some beers and appetizers here on a Friday night. They happened to be screening the Aussie rules football championships live throughout the place, so it was pretty loud and crowded. Their decor is modern and upscale, their music is contemporary and loud, and their staff is young, Australian and attractive. They have at least a half-dozen Australian beers on tap -- try the Cooper's and the Boag's! Their appetizers were great, too -- try the Wagyu sliders and the sampler plate! My main concern with this place was the fact that they only had one very overworked bartender at our bar -- she kept getting inundated with an endless stream of printouts coming from their computer system, and as a result we had to wait an eternity for our drinks. Suggestion to the management: hire more staff!
- Pros: Hip decor, attrractive young staff
- Cons: Crowded, loud and expensive
An Aussie's take on an Aussie Shop
by petervanbeek
Wow! What a plesant suprise!
There I was in San Diego and I come a piece of home.
I'll be brief...
Food: Excellent. One of the best silders I've had
Drink: Nothing beats a fosters
Desert: Pavlova should be on every menu
Service: Maybe could do with a few more g'day's... no but seriously it was great.
Highly recommend it to Anyone.
great hangout, great beer
by akira101
it's located on 5th street so there's plenty of foot-traffic on this street. great location because it's so close to the ballpark and the waterfront.
anyways, i've been here twice for their beer. i can't recall what it was but it's one of their tap beers. It was crisp, sweet and refreshing. Go for their beer!
Their decor is exceptional! Well designed. I wonder what it's like here late on a weekend...
- Pros: beer, decor, location, great place to hangout
The Gaslamp goes Down Under with simple, fresh food and an impressive Aussie beer selection imported in eco-friendly kegs.

In Short
Minus the trite trappings of boomerangs, alligators and Yellowtail Chardonnay, Bondi's sleek design strikes a more authentic chord with imported jarrah hardwood flooring, red iron ore walls and grass tree fronds shipped directly from Australia's Pilbara desert. Chef Chris Behre is imported too--from the iconic Bennelong at the Sydney Opera House--as are many of his ingredients like lamb, seafood, cheese, condiments and even beef. An Aussie-only wine list complements the small plates and meat-heavy menu.
This is a KEEPER
by makmiller
We visited last weekend for breakfast and found the service and food great. The menu had a lot of unusual items and the plates we ordered were great. My first reaction to the menu was that it seemed kinda expensive for breakfast. That was easy to overcome once the food was served. We can't wait to come back and try a more typical meal like lunch or dinner. CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!
- Pros: Great Decor, Friendly Service, Attention to Details on the Menu Items
- Cons: Don't live in the area so it will be a while before I can return
Try the meat pies
by notasurfer
You've got to try the meat pies -- yum! I cna't find these anywhere but here, and they are the perfect warm, hearty snack with a beer. These are such nice people that run this place -- really trying to become part of the downtown family.
- Pros: Cool space, nice people
- Cons: A bit pricey
Real Australian
by mrsmith619
Real Australian experience. I heard they are one of the only places in North America to import full kegs of Aussi Beer. There are booths when you walk in that are like hot air balloon baskets and act like them as well. When it gets later in the night the booths are raised to the ceiling to make more room for minglers to mill around. Give it a try...you might just find a little Aussie in yourself.
