I love this Salon
by maryfam
First of all they always know how to welcome clients and put them at ease. David is a wonderful stylist who learns new techniques, methods and is fashion conscious. He exactly knows what I want every time and I am always happy with my new look. He enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds. What else can I add: Professionalism, Courtesy, Knowledge, Integrity, Trust and Experience…Two thumbs up.
Nice indulgence

I would recommend this salon for multiple- color highlights/ lowlights, and a cut. Just make sure you are prepared for a high bill, especially if David, the owner, does it himself. I am very happy with how my hair looks. A little less product at the end would have left my wet hair a bit less crispy in a couple of hours when it dried... But the color is beautiful and suits my skin coloring and personality. Left to his own desires, David came up with a good choice. I was happy to be taken right away both times I've been there. I think it was just luck, but it was nice not to have to wait a month for an appointment. I know it's normal for stylists to overlap clients who are all having coloring and cuts, but occasionally this will cause one of those people to wait a little longer than they would like with color on their hair. Just a suggestion for improving customer service, maybe only overlap a max of two people. Even though i'm in sticker shock from this morning, i have to remind myself that i only do this for myself about three times a year, and your hair is an investment if you care how you look!
Best color / cut service in San Diego with David Perez
by Alexandra007
I had my highlights and haircut done by David Perez a week ago and I am very happy with the results. David's highlights took at least 10 years off my look and the haircut is great. I have been doing my hair with David for almost 4 years on and off (I like trying different things :-), but looking back - David was the best stylist. I was always happy with the results and never disappointed. I could have saved myself a lot of aggrevation if I just did my hair with David all those years.
- Pros: Great location, easy parking, professional stylists, good products, GREAT color/cut service
- Cons: Pricey (if you don't have the coupon)
Great salon

I prefer to have my hair done by David himself. The other stylists are good, but David is ultra-good. He is an amazing colorist. His haircut is youthful and hip. I've gotten many compliments on it. A+ to you, David.
THE BEST COLORIST/HIGHLIGHTS IN THE UTC/LA JOLLA/SAN DIEGO AREA

Anyone looking for a great hairstylist that will make your hair fantastic... look no further. I have worked in salons for the last 18 years in South Florida and have always gotten color/highlights...I have worked at some of the most exclusive and respected Salons and I must say that David has, by far, been the best stylist/colorist that I've ever met. I have medium brown hair that is colored/highlighted blonde. I have seen color client, after color client walk out of David's chair with AWESOME color (brunette, blonde, etc). David knows color and is at the top of his field!!
If you are frustrated with hairdressers that don't listen to what you want or are inconsistent with their work, then you've got to try David... you'll never want anyone else to touch your hair! He also carries a great product line, as well-Bumble and Bumble. The staff is always very polite and friendly, too.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND DAVID to clients that are very particular about their hair and want exceptional quality. If you've had problems finding a colorist that can get your color "right".... David's your guy!! And his cuts are great, too!!
Since I've moved to California and David has been coloring/highlighting my hair, it's never looked better!!!
- Pros: Fantastic colorist... which is hard to find!! David's the best!
- Cons: NONE

I've been going to see David at Salon David Perez for about 3 years now and I've never had anything less than an excellent experience. I am incredibly picky about my hair and have had some terrible experiences in the past. David, however, is the man. I simply go in, give him a vague outline of what i'm looking for, and he has yet to fail at giving me a fantastic hairstyle. I would definitely recommend going here.
Less than par experience

I left the salon feeling absolutely taken for my money. I was told up front a range of prices for cut and touch-up, though when David rang me up, it was NO WHERE close to what I was quoted for. he pushed me into buying products that I know I could have found cheaper somewhere else, though I put my foot down and denied a third product he was trying to get me to buy. I explained to him that since moving from the east coast my hair has become extremely knotty and i was looking for a deep conditioning treatment. i have had treatments done before at salons back home, that stay in your hair for 10 minutes and cost $25.... whatever he put in my hair was over $100 and I do not see the tiniest bit of difference in my hair (i did that day before he loaded my hair with product, but once i washed my own hair it was a tangled mess all over again. The worst part of the experience was that he used me as a guinea pig to train a girl that clearly has not been to beauty school yet. I was all for the "watch and learn" approach but when he handed her the brush and dryer and then left I was uncomfortable. This girl had no idea what she was doing! Between hitting my head repeatedly with the blowdryer and creating a beehive- knot when trying to blowout a section of my naturally straight hair. It was left a frizzy mess that David later fixed. Regardless, I did not pay a fortune to pose as a Barbie doll for practice. When I asked for the price breakdown, David assured me that he was saving me money by charging me for a full highlight (when I only got a touch-up) since that took money off of the deep conditioning treatment. He charged $95 for a cut/blowdry when he himself didn?t even dry it. He put tons of product in my hair, though he made me do it myself (he squeezed the stuff in my hands and told me what to do) which in turn weighed my hair down and left it so oily I had to wash it that night. Bottom line, I feel ripped off and feel as though the whole experience was a waste.
You won't be disappointed...

Finding a new hairdresser is always a stressful ordeal, well, for most women. I recently returned to San Diego after several years away and I was dreading having to find someone new. To make a long story short, after thorough research online, after reading pages and pages of reviews, I narrowed my selection to three salons and set up consults at Dearinger, Jet Rhys and Salon David Perez. I was utterly unimpressed with Dearinger - I showed up for my consult only to be told they were overbooked and that I'd have to wait 2 hours for a stylist...I walked out never to return. Jet Rhys was a lovely experience, I was highly impressed with Dani. However, when I met David I knew I'd be coming back.
I'm shocked at the scathing reviews of David, his character and his work...perhaps these comments should be taken with a large grain of salt? Could they simply be a personal attack? One must also consider that even the best stylist can not make every single client happy.
I strongly recommend David but if, like me, you're unsure, why not set up a consult? You won't be disappointed.
- Pros: David will work with you to fit you into his schedule - the salon has a laidback atmosphere, very unpretentious.
- Cons: The salon doesn't have late evening hours.
Salon David Perez

1) This was the most expensive haircut and color I have ever paid for in my life.
2) It was also the WORST CUT I have ever had.
I had high hopes as this place really went overboard to let you know they were a "high-dollar", "ultra hip" salon. (I spent $230, about $75 more than at my regular stylist who does magazine shoots and was out of town doing one at the time.) Maybe if I had been done by David himself it would have turned out better BUT I got a Supercuts deal on this one!
I should have known that stylists who take walk ins are often avail as they are the least experienced on staff with little clientele base. Linh was nice enough and did a fine job with my color, HOWEVER...this girl did NOT know how to layer fine, long hair! I have since had two other stylists look at my cut and both were amazed how she could use such an inappropriate technique for my type of hair. In an attempt to layer my fine, mostly one length tresses and give them body, she used thinning shears/one sided comb-shears ( about 6"- 10") from the bottom of my length. Instead of pulling my hair out horizontally and cutting straight across the ends at a 45 degree angle, so they hair is layered and falls in a graduated manner she simply cut out huge sections of hair all over my mane to lessen its weight in an attempt to give it body. While this technique does work with wiry hair types I was told, to do so with fine hair results in disaster- and I can attest to that!
I left the salon feeling great as she had curled and styled my tresses BUT after the first wash I saw the DISASTER that was now my 18" long hair! Her thinning technique did NOT add body at all but instead made my fine hair so thin in the length that my ponytail was all of 1/2 thick at the bottom! It looked horrible unless I spent time hot rolling my hair to conceal the poor layering job. Even drying with a round brush and thickening product, the cut looked just AWFUL. It looked hacked....and that is just what it was.
- Pros: Ambience...which you pay for! Rent must be sky high so no wonder they charge what they do.
- Cons: Price. I have had a salon experience AND CUT for less money elsewhere.
Best haircut, great understanding of what a girl wants
by AnniePete
I was tired of working so hard to make my hair look stylish and essentially wore it back in a ponytail everyday. David was a good listener and HONEST about what it would take for me to get cool and functional style. Then, he did a fantastic makeover on my hair. I went from ponytail to hair that looks great styled many ways with minimal effort. My husband LOVES it and says it's the best haircut I've ever gotten. To quote "it's hip, sassy and shows off your face and neck perfectly".
