by lunabeth at Citysearch
If you want to have a quiet romantic Italian dinner, this is the place to eat. The menu have very authentic dishes that are delicious and unique. For a more casual dinner, I really recommend their pizza. The food is fresh and they have a nice selection of wine to go with your dinner. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, wonderful food!
- Pros: Beautiful scenary
- Cons: little to no parking outside
DISAPPOINTING SERVICE
by bigwilly319 at Citysearch
I've been a SD resident for 8+ plus years now and Old Venice used to be one of my favorite restaurants to go. It was one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. The menu is extremely authentic and the food is prepared and presented elegantly. But I must say, the service my fiance and I had last time was so outrageous, we left and we've never been back since. This was about a year ago now and back then we were told THEY DIDN'T TAKE ANY RESERVATIONS. So we decided to show up and put our names down knowing we were going to be waiting . We were told initially that we would have to wait about 30-45 mins, which was okay, but an hour and 20 mins rolled by so we decided to ask about our table status. They told us that it would be a little bit longer, so at that time since we've waiting that long already we decided to wait a little longer. Then all of a sudden a large table that was comprised of two smaller table opened up. We thought for sure we were going to be seated since there were no others in front of us. Then all of a sudden a party of about 4-6 walk up and talk to the hosts. Two minutes later that party was seated before us. Without hesitation my fiance and I go talk to the hosts and inquire about the recent table seating. We explained our story and wondered why a party of people who just walked up to the restaurant got seated before us, especially since we've already waited over an hour and 20 minutes. The hosts started giving us one excuse after another including the excuse that they had made a reservation earlier that evening which didn't make sense because the same people earlier told us they didn't take reservations. We asked to speak with the restaurant manager and started to explain the situation. All she said was that they were every busy that night and she was very sorry, no other attempts to please the customer or even try to smooth things over. We left before we were seated and we have never been back to the restaurant since.
- Pros: Authentic, Elegant Food
- Cons: Service/Hosts
Great bar, Great restaurant

The bar can get very crowded, but the restaurant is usually a great bet if you have a reservation. Lovely food, fair prices and a romantic setting. The service is also good, though perhaps not outstanding. An excellent casual date spot that is sure to impress w/o being too stuffy.
- Pros: Great food, romatic ambiance and good value
- Cons: can get very busy
Romantic and very neighborhood-friendly

This is the perfect date place in point loma. I'm hesitant to even write a good review of it, b/c I don't want it to become too popular and crowded. just a simple, casually elegant spot for a nice italian meal or glass of wine. love it!
Adorable, classy, a favorite

I adore Old Venice. The food is good and reasonable, but the atmosphere is just so romantic. The bar side, although very lively on the weekends, still makes you feel at home. Eggplant parmigan is wonderful. I recommend steering clear of the signature cocktails, though.
- Pros: Great atmosphere
- Cons: Long wait on weekends

Hidden Point Loma patio glows with charm, strung lights, and a classic Italian menu with Sinatra serenading in the background.

The Scene
Candle lights flicker in the all-white interior, save for a few spriggs of lavender, where romantic, hanging chandeliers and iron wall sconces also contribute to the overall warmth. White iron tables huddle on the brick patio out back with twinkle lights wound around many twisting tree branches. It is neighborhood elegance defined. Pizza is the favorite among Point Loma regulars who want a simple pie taken a bit upscale with fresh basil and seasonal toppings, but it's the classic italian specialities that make this a romance destination for sweethearts everywhere. Whether it's sharing a plate of chicken Marsala and a carafe of the house chianti, or lingering over real italian cappuccinno by the fireplace, the food and the space are the perfect backdrop for a heart-to-heart.
