Delicious Food; Great Value; Good Service

by maest35 at Citysearch

OK, we dined here for brunch on our final day in San Diego. The breakfast options were very delicious--the pecan french toast changed my life, pancakes were light and fluffy, biscuits were exceptional, steak hash was phenomenal. The lunch was really good too: tasty burgers and the chicken and brie sandwich was killer. I loved the white pinot noir - the overall wine list rocked! I promise to return here. 2 hours of free parking!

  • Pros: Great Menu, Fab Service
  • Cons: Can't think of any

Go somewhere else

by elginmate at Citysearch

This location has had over 5 different owners since I lived in San Diego and this one will soon be joining the long line of failures if they treat customers the way they do.

If you're at the beach you looking to relax and San Diego is the best place in California to do that. The Firehouse is not the place you want to go for a hassle free drink or dinner.

We had 8 in our party when we showed up. The hostess asked if we would be dining. Since it was mid day we were just looking for a place to enjoy some drinks. She told us to go upstairs and find a table. Once we got upstairs and sat down the waiter started to give us menus. After informing him that we were not eating he said you need to leave now then basically stood over the whole party till we got up. Wow, what a great attitude. Where am I, downtown LA.

If you want a place that has a great view and a relaxing atmosphere there are plenty more just a few steps away. Ale House is across the street, a half block away is Nicks (A great patio atmosphere). Take it from someone that has lived in the area; anywhere else you go will be better than this.

  • Pros: Good View
  • Cons: Everything else

Worst Service in PB. Don't Waste your Money!

by Mofosta601 at Citysearch

I took my wife here for her birthday June 27, 2009 @ 1:00 pm. We waited an hour for one drink and never received our food. We told an manager and received no apology. I am embarrassed they call them selves a firehouse . I am a Captain for the fire department and we don't treat people like that.

Worst Service in PB!

by LauraAnne912 at Citysearch

It is too bad that the service is so sub-standard because the menu and location can't be beat. It is a fairly priced breakfast place but the service makes you want to walk out! I ordered 3 drinks at my table and they never arrived. I asked for avocado on the side (as it suggests in the menu) and the server looked at me like I was crazy. The servers and the managers live up to all of the stereotypes of PB!

I now understand why I didn't have to wait for a table. If you want a great breakfast, great view and great service - walk a few blocks to the green flash, world famous or even the mission.

Such a disappointment!

  • Pros: view of the ocean
  • Cons: horrible service

Awesome breakfast place!!!

by emalnati at Citysearch

We were turned onto the breakfast at Firehouse by a friend and were pleasantly suprised - They have some great breakfast fare (strawberry pancakes, waffles, and the filet mignon benedict are outstanding). We have tried them for lunch and weren't quite as impressed; however, if you are looking for a great place for breakfast, Firehouse rocks.

  • Pros: location, view (definitely sit upstairs), validated parking, service, and breakfast foods

Not worth the hype...

by erinmonahan04 at Citysearch

I was excited when I heard about new "downtown lougne" bars opneing up in PB, where a sea of greasy overly crowded beach bars have become the norm. Once we waited in line for 45 minutes, we got up to the door. I've never dealt with such rude and arrogant bouncers. We got in the door, and it wasn't overly croweded, but we had to wait in another line to get upstairs-We waited 45 minutes outside to wait inside of 1/2 hour!! They have a ton of flat panel TV's up, but not sure why-they were showing regular TV with a million commercials. When I pay $ for a drink, an overwhelimingly bright Jessica Simpson ad selling her acne stuff isn't exactly what I call pleasing. Should have chosen something better to focus more on the mood. The patio was nice and open, but the service was slow and they brought us the wrong bottle of wine and told us it was our fault. There was nothing "Firehouse" about it-no decor, and the staff wore grey t-shirts that they proabalby bought at Kmart and silk screened. It's not worth the hype, and maybe those greasy beach bum bars aren't so bad afterall. I won't be returning. If I want a downtown feel, I'll go downtown, where they know how to act and how to run a more updscale bar.

  • Pros: An ocean view from the patio
  • Cons: The bouncers, the service, the wait

new scene at the beach

by notasurfer at Citysearch

this is the kind of place that is slowly starting to change, update and clean up the PB scene. It's still casual, still chill and still packed with party people, but it just feels a little nicer. I like the roof upstairs and greasy grilled cheese and the guac. The only bummer is long lines almost every night so far. Hopefully it'll get better when all the tourists leave after summer. worth a try.

  • Pros: cool rooftop
  • Cons: kind of small, too crowded

Lame line up's and uninformed bouncers

by crypple at Citysearch

Cool inside but liquor license only lasts till 12. Useless and long lineups even when it's not busy. After lining up for 45 mins the bouncer thought it appropriate to let us know it was last call in 15 minuites. Definately avoid on any nights that are supposed to be fun. Disappointing to say the least but worth checking out on slow night.

  • Pros: nice decor, cool place to be, upstairs is rad
  • Cons: lame bouncers, only licensed till 12, they will make you line up even wne noone is inside

PB's latest loungy restaurant sports a California/Baja menu with two bars and a hip rooftop deck.

by Erin Chambers at Citysearch

In Short
Literally steps from the sand, DJ-spun beats make the beach scene feel more upscale at this rooftop sun deck dotted with double-wide lounge chairs, bright umbrellas and views of sunbathers on the beach below. Downstairs, two bars coexist with more traditional seating in the restaurant , where separate breakfast and "all day" menus focus on clean California and Baja dishes like grilled salmon, fish tacos, ahi burgers and popular local brew Firehouse Ale.
