Great Service for a Large Group
by Reunion08
I phoned Anita Taylor, the manager of Filippis on Kearny Rd., from my home in Oregon to inquire about accomodations for a group of about 35 for a family reunion. She layed out what seemed like a very good arrangement for us - ordering from the menu with separate payment for each family. I met with Anita when I arrived in San Diego - the night before our gathering. I left feeling I had just met with a good friend and this carried through our entire event the next evening.
We were given a semi-private room. Our waiter was excellent. He was efficient and patient - and handled well a group that was busy mingling together. He saw to it that the young - some very young - children had bread brought to the table almost immediately to help their needs. It would seem that the staff that worked with this waiter - to help with the serving - worked well together. Food was served hot and it was served quickly. At no time did we feel rushed.
The whole evening was all that I had hoped for. All our group was very happy with the choice of Filippis as the first night for this first ever family reunion for us.
We'll look to Filippis again if we can manage another reunion at some time in the future!

Decent pizza
by dmenkes
I used to freelance for a company right near here, and it was a good place to take a break and grab a slice. I wasn't so keen on their pastas but their pizza crust was thick and their sauce tasty, and their prices reasonable. A few times our service could've been a bit better but overall it's fine.
Classic pizza parlor is a San Diego tradition in Little Italy
by Erin Chambers
In Short
From the red checkered table cloths to the hundreds of chianti bottles strung from the ceiling, this pizza grotto is a classic experince in Italian-American dining. After more than 50 years in business, people still come in droves to wait in line for a table and slice of what is routinely voted the best pie in the city. Also popular are the macaroni and spumoni.
